The first race of the season is coming up soon and my motor is still not yet together. Last you heard from me I got a car (for the motor) and the head was leaking from cylinders 2 & 3 (leakdown determined it was the exhaust side). I brought it to a machine shop and when I got it back and attached it to the motor and did another leakdown, same...

I decided to fully weld the panel in place. There is alot to spot weld but I feel more comfortable with it being welded in. I'm going to weld the underside as well just to make sure it is solid. It takes less then 30 minutes to get it fitted but then it took me alittle longer to weld it in and then clean it up. With the panel installed it...

A last minute opportunity to drive at MSRC came up for January 2nd, 2012. I was able to go, and it was an “educational” day. Another friend had given me some of his old tires. The story of the day is really a separate post that should include video footage of the “incidents”. But, suffice it to say that I “fought” the new tires...

Chris worked so hard on this car. I can't thank him enough, since JP3 finished the build a year ago I wanted to paint it. JP3 made me hold off until I got another season under my belt and he was spot on. The only part of the car that didn't get damaged was the rear deck. You can see on some of the photos we didn't repair everything...

It was my son's turn to try and get off his NASA provisional license by competing the last 2 weekends at Buttonwillow in SM and and at Thunderhill in PTE and SM.
At Buttonwillow he learned a lot, #1 not to go to a school dance the night before a race! We got started a little late and we had to do an annual inspection before our first...

I had woken up in the exact same spot many times before. Same bed in the same motorhome, in the same pits at Buttonwillow Raceway. Except this time I wasn’t walking out of the motorhome and looking at a go kart, but a Spec Miata. That’s when it hit me that after 8 months of prepwork on both the car and myself, the day had finally arrived, my...

Good news - I am now one of the writers on a new website dedicated to blogging about cars. More specifically, cars that go fast and like to turn. There are tons more features and stories on this site, so it is definitely worth checking out; especially the tire reviews and updates on the VW TDI cup.
So I will cut to the chase......

So I have uploaded the pictures I've got so far. I pulled the old motor out, cleaned up the engine bay and resprayed it. I am using Krylon Gloss gray spray for the engine bay and interior per a recommendation by Planet Miata. So far it has worked out great. I replaced all of the common M6x1 10mm bolts on the car with all new hardware to...

An account of my first novice race last season. Enjoy.
Yep, I was that kid; the one that obsessed over his Hot Wheels. The one that at thirteen years old, would wash his dad's cars purely for the opportunity to move them around the driveway.
Actually, I'm still...

My Spec Miata is finished and ready to head back to my home town in NJ and get some vinyl! I had a friend of our race team print out the graphics from some designs we sent him by e-mail. They only cost about 60.00 for the whole set! They were pretty easy to put on with the application kit that was sent with the...
