Hello all.
I found a cheap OEM hard top for my future Spec Miata, but it is missing the rear clips. Does this matter for Spec Miata? Are the four hard top brackets enough or should I worry about rigging up some rear brackets as well?

You're good without the rear clips. (I'm assuming you're talking about the 2 chrome square thingy that are sticking out at the rear bottom of the roof.
It's mostly use for alignement when installing the top on a street car.
Now, make sure this is a genuine Mazda top as it's the only one allowed by the rule. It should have a MAZDA DOT sticker somewhere (don't quote me on that though)...

I think OEM equivalents are allowed now? Thought I remember that changing...
Haven't you thought this a few times before?... The SCCA rule says.

Colin it would be nice if you filled in a little more info about you, like where your from, but..
If you have the OEM top your golden.
SCCA, James is right.
SCCA San Francisco Reg allows Snugtops, they're heavier so no advantage. Maybe your region, IDK
NASA says.
8.1.2. Hardtop may be used, and if used, must be securely bolted in place. Aftermarket hard
tops are allowed provided they meet the exact original equipment specifications for both
design and weight
Ok, since we're talking about this. You don't need to bolt the rear down???
And the gap I see on some of the cars with me being able to see through is legal ???

SCCA rules
Point A. Where is the rule eliminating the detachable hard top rear deck plate or rear deck latch assembly???
Point B. Where is the rule that allows eliminating the detachable hard top rear weather strip or edge protector???
With these parts of point A. & B. in place there will be a water tight seal per say and no visual air gap.
Parts to be assembled per Mazda factory shop manual.
Sorry James...different orgs and local rules...I new somewhere it was ok! The old boys club(I'm in that!)hasn't adopted yet...will try and store this info somewhere safe
I am just pulling your chain a bit Ron. I forget things myself all the time.

I would love an email to go out saying we're checking this this event so get your Sh!t straight. (but say it in a nice way of course)

If I were an SCCA King of tech chief, I'd troll (a leader for you) sites for folks with rule attitude like yours, then make out random (with suspected cheaters names on a list) check list for different tracks. You can figure out the remainder, your pretty sharp.
This past weekend at a SCCA Divisonal race at the Blackhawk Farm the supps clearly stated, NO BUMP DRAFTING. Gee, there is a SCCA rule to back this up. They also did random, un-announced tech for bolt size for ballast weight and holes in the floor panels. NOTED LOGBOOKS, because there are rules about these items.

There are ways to modify the OE tops that aren't easily policed. If you were to bother with this then there needs to be a minimum weight legislated.
snugtops are heavier, but there are lots of tops that look like OEM and are lighter, so opening it up is a poor idea.
Luckily those of us that don't race and aren't contenders don't really have an impact on the ruleset.

I was just suggesting. They (NASA) don't have an event until July 26th.
Send an email out that they will be checking.
I not trying to screw people at the track with a DQ, just would like to get it fixed.
The rules for NASA and SFR SCCA are already and have been in place for Snugtop, etc.

Come on parts water spray hose at the seal area of an OEM hard top, water hose spray at seal area of a ventelation OEM hard top and the flag will pop up. Can't be tough to find the modification. And if folks are so ingenious to have to implement an indy car open to pass wing (roof against all areo forces opens), the class will fade in a hurry.
Your second point would not be correct, IIRC any SCCA member can write a ruel letter to the CRB. They responded with a rule change to my last letter. A sad point is as I was told the changed ruel will lay for it's life in it's FasTrack tech/bulletin and never be written into the SMCS GCR ruel.
After a racing weekend, back to fixing trailer lights.
I don't think this should be blown out of propostion, but if you have way too much time on your hands, well...get out the hose.
I'm not pointing fingers at anybody but our region and it's pretty obvious that the seal is gone.

I get $40 for seals, so I sure as hell don't run them! Not what I was getting at. And Blowhard knows it's not what I meant.

Run by the rules, but posting crap that stuff can't be caught or teched and the lurkers will have more to smack the class with.
I have had the hard top gap and seal checked at least twice, I think three times. It must be run to be compliant. You should NOT see air under rear hardtop edge. Whether it is teched or checked is another story.
