Trying to find out if there are any updates on the Competition Differential supplier for SM for 1st gen cars? We'd like to move in this direction on our 92 SM...

Mazdaspeed and the SMAC are working on getting the Cusco unit approved as the replacement for the Mazdacomp differential. It has been approved by the SMAC, it now has to go through CRB and the BOD. I don't anticipate it having any issues passing , but until it is in our rules, it is not legal for competition.

Thanks
Jim

Will both of the Cusco LSD's be approved? If not, the Type RS or the Type MZ? Will there be restrictions on the modes that can be used?

It looks like a good unit. I wonder how many will switch...

At this time I cannot elaborate, but yes, we did spec the unit model and specifications as to what configuration of the unit will be authorized to install as the replacement.

with the complete lack of tech goign on expect the spec to start creeping again - I am so in favor of the old $10 SM compliance fee - really sad to see it go!

I don't know why it still amazes me that you guys can turn almost any thread into a thread about tech, or lack thereof.

Can I buy the Costco diff at one of their stores? Do I have to have a Costco membership first? And will I have to buy a case of 12 differentials or will Costco sell just one?

Hey Wheel, I'm surprised that nobody mentioned that it's a moot point because the 1.6 is dead.

Depending on which of the Cusco diffs you put in and how you set the cams... the 1.6 might be back. Less drag on the straights might help the poor 1.6 accelerate like the torquemonsters.

Don't worry, since the 99s are obviously superior, we'll be slapping a smaller restrictor and or some weight on them. I think, maybe a couple of weeks before the Runoffs.

Can I run this replacement in my 99? Why not make the 1.6's run a Torsen? ;)

The LSD is a 2 way 45/45. Racer cost will be about $1231.00.
