Getting ready to build a racing simulator cockpit during the Rolex 24 in a couple weeks and am looking for any plans, pictures, etc. Plan on using 1" square stock to build the frame and then mount an old Ultrashield "Spec Miata" seat along with the Logitech G27 wheel, shifter and pedals. Would appreciate any advise.

Ive built a few, not very advanced all made of wood. But what i can say is put a comfortable seat in it. Its neat to have the look of a real race car but when your sitting in there for 1hr + remember what your butt is going to feel like
The next thing is make your seat adjustable, you will like it later and if you have buddies come over they can move the seat.
I also on my last build took the pedals apart and inside they are on a metal setup that you can move and adjust the pedals. I then took them and mounted them upside down on a slanted frame so they hung like real pedals.
I will try to get some pics up soon. At work right now and dont have any.

Burl - nice setup. I'm looking to make something like that, by chance did you position the pedals, wheel, and seat according to your Miata?

Racer,
Why yes I did! I measured the pedals from the seat bolt front to back. I measured from the transmission hump to the center of each pedal. The wheel is over the front seat bolts and the shifter is even with the wheel front to back. (The diagram is off a little, as the wheel is directly over the front seat mount). I just used 2x4's and 1/4" plywood and with hardware was less than $50.00.

Buelligan - Looks like you got the angel of the pedals right, what angle did you make the wood base for them?

Now this is a rough guess at the measurements, Im not home so I can't verify but I know its close. I just cut different wedges to put on top of the full 2x4 and temporarily attached it and the pedals until I liked the angle, so I dont know the exact angle. You know trial and error . Hope this helps. Let me know if you want exact I'll check it when i get home and post. I see you are in northern VA, you are welcome to come see it and try it out if you like. I'm about 30 mins. NW of Summit Point.

B - thanks for the info and offer, I'm hoping to start on my build this weekend. I may do a quick design in Google SketchUp to see how it will look first - the problem is that my current setup works just well enough that it is hard to not just race!!! Darn work keeps occupying too many hours of the day!!!
