So I'm installing a used DL1 that I purchased. I'm trying to mount the GPS sensor and instructions say to mount it to the roof of the car so that it has 360* visibility to satellites. The GPS sensor has a strong magnet on it so normal tin top cars can just stick it on. The Miata's hard top is fiberglass so I'm trying to figure out how others have installed their GPS sensors.

Pics, descriptions would be appreciated.

Thanks.

I've had the magnetic satellite "eye" for my G2X mounted on the package shelf behind me for 3 years and it can always see lots of satellites (avg is 9) looking up through the rear window.

I have a DL-1 in my car, and I ran the antenna wire through the package shelf into the trunk, and then placed the antenna itself just ahead of the trunk, behind the hard top. Never had a problem acquiring signal.

My DL-1 antenna fit perfectly between the main roll hoop and the top.
No signal problems.
It's out of the weather but if I roll the car it is toast.
Move over Vick!

I've run mine on trunk lid for years, as I have my traqmate in the trunk. Off and on have had little issues with clean signals could be antenna could be location, so this year I'm upgrading to the more powerful antenna that bolts and going to mount it on the hard top up high so I can get the clearest signal possible.

Ditto.... always see 9 satellites and the antenna is protected from damage there.

Thanks. I mounted behind the hardtop and trunk and ran the wire through the antenna hole. Will test and see how this works.

I have the antenna mounted between hardtop and trunk, and run the wire under the hardtop seal - straight shot from antenna to the DL-1. Least amount of wiring getting in the way of other things or crossing any other wires. Best to do this with hardtop removed.
