June 21 marks the summer solstice and the heat was high at Hallett with a 4 region crossover between Central, Texas, Rocky Mountain Region and Mid South. The Spec Miata field had 23 cars total putting us in maximum Toyo contingency points. Two CR drivers made the trip with Jeff Leavell recently moving back to Missouri and Joel Karns who was able to get his transmission replaced and engine leak fixed before the event. The race consisted of 4 total races with a 25 minute enduro race for charity Saturday night and the final race 4 on Sunday was the Summer Shootout with cash prize for the winner.

Saturday
Karns and Leavell ran race 1 together with Leavell pulling in early on lap 7. Karns qualified 19th but opted to start from the back of the grid to feel out such a large field of unknown SM drivers (plus a new track). During the race Karns ran into some overheating issues. In the race Karns worked his way up to 16th in 4 laps where he stayed. Karns was able to run a 1:34:214 as his best lap of the weekend in this race.

25 Minutes of Hallett Endurance Race
NASA has claim to fame for two events now - the longest endurance road race in the world and now the shortest at 25 minutes requiring full driver change. The race was for charity for a local Tulsa food bank. Some 20+ cars made it out for the event including Rivard co-driving in Karns' car. Again making it late to grid Rivard started from the pits after the green flag and chased the field. Able to make it in with 10 minutes left (or so we thought) Karns jumped in his car to run the last couple of laps while in the spirit of the event wearing his suit inside out (CCR has no rule against it). Rivard and Karns wound up passing the other car in class while in the pits and winning their class in the event.

Sunday
Karns was able to mitigate the overheating issue as he was able to get some water wetter and decided he can run the morning Race #3. Since he didn't make the 2nd Race on Saturday he had to start last on the grid. He was able to work his way up to 17th but the car was running hot again.

MAM - June 30/Jul 1
Our next event is at MAM June 30 / July 1 weekend. Please register early for MAM so we can get a accurate car count. We are expecting to have at least 5 cars and good contingency points (also counts towards year end Mazda contingency).

National Championships
We are almost half way through the season and those planning on running the National Championships have to get the minimum number of qualifying races in before the event. Prices will also go up soon so please check the main NASA site.
