Voytek Burdzy was victorious on Sunday, running a strong race, was able to pass me in the early laps, and stayed out of trouble, avoiding the various STU / STL cars and their mechanical issues. Chris Williams was second, and I was able to get third place, with Tom Brown 4th, and Bruce Andersen Jr in 5th. Chris and I ran close for most of the race. He eventually got me going into two. I could run fast enough to stay close, but not fast enough to pass him back.

There were 18 Spec Miatas, a good turnout compared to last week at Nelson. Thanks to the SBR and DET regions for hosting a good event, setting up a good schedule, a great dinner, and running the double event over two days. Also thanks to whoever got the “cooler” wind from the west blowing from Lake Michigan on Saturday, when the temps stayed around 90 degrees instead of 100 degrees in other nearby areas, I think Jeff Luckritz got that arranged somehow.

Dave failed to mention he took home first place on Saturday as Voyetk very literally "dropped" a wheel coming onto the front straight. Excellent job by the pack of avoiding a major incident, I think Dave missed Voytek on the inside by about 1/4 of an inch! I cleared by a good 1-2 inches. :) Mike Novak and John Scheuing each squeezed between Voytek's car and the wall!

After Voytek's unfortunate run of luck, I was only able to keep up with Dave, but never close enough to execute a pass move. Dave also threw down an incredible lap(fastest lap by over .3 seconds during the weekend) at a 1:48.0xx to take the pole on Sunday... Nice weekend Mr. Bednarz! (Voytek as well, congrats on the track record in Sunday's win)

Agree with Dave on a great double weekend by SBR and DET. Thanks guys! I always really ejnoy the event! Looking forward to next years double!

Thanks to everyone who had to deal with me working my way through the field both days. (Late to grid Saturday, Sunday got punted in turn 2). Very clean weekend with a lot of close racing with a slick racing surface (during Saturday's heat).

A fun weekend. I had to run just because it was the only regional or national race weekend at Gingerman in the GLD this year. I hope everyone enjoys the extra Bonus Point I gave you. Unfortunately, Jim Suhr can't because he didn't take my advice and drive clean and stay on track. The heat was brutal Friday and Saturday, but cooled somewhat on Sunday. The lack of ice anywhere in the local area on Saturday evening and Sunday made for warm beer and no Cool Shirt, but we survived. Congrats to all that placed well.

I'll take credit for the two day double national idea that I stole from some regions out west. To me it seems like a no-brainer compared to a three day double: one less night in a hotel, no days off work, less time away from home from workers, lower track rental to help keep the entry fee down etc. The weekend wasn't perfect and we'll be having a post-race meeting soon to come up with ways to make the event run better in 2013.

Some pretty good pictures are posted at : http://www.facebook....134580229919594

Let me know if you have any input on the race weekend.

Thanks.

I think the two day format and schedule worked out great. There are always some minor glitches, however you guys are doing a great job on this event! It shows by the inceased participation!

I Thought the event was great. Practice on Friday if you want , but for those who couldn't you had time to get up to speed during the morning warmup. I like many others had a great time racing. Going between the wall and Voytek's car while in the sand at speed----Could have passed on that!!!

Please work on the weather for next year 75F would be perfect. :D

The two days vs. was a big determining factor for us to come over vs. find one or two more nationals to do on this side of the lake. I think it worked well.
