Not sure where I might post this question, but I have a 2012 Ford F350 Powerstroke that I use to tow the Miata. This truck has a 6.5 foot bed and the only option is a 26 gallon fuel tank. Not enough range.

I have been looking at replacement gas tanks by both Titan and Transfer Flow inc who both make a 50 gallon replacement under bed gas tanks. I am looking to see if anyone on the forum has done this?

The issue is the trip program computer has to be reprogrammed so that the Miles to Empty will work correctly and maybe even your MPG calculation. Anyone run across this?

Frank:

I had a very similar original set-up with my 2007 GMC 2500HD Duramax and went with a Transfer Flow under bed tank (though the only under bed size they had for my truck was 45 gallon). The installer did a nice job and I really enjoy the extra range when towing to events. The only issue I notice with my Transfer Flow tank is a bit of difficulty stuffing the last few gallons into the tank - they like to back up the filler neck.

The installer told me that the trip computer was reprogrammed but I'm not quite sure about its accuracy. I end up doing a bit of mental math to independently calculate remaining range/miles until empty and then err on the conservative side to make sure I don't end up in trouble. I'm sure I could take it back to the installer and have them verify/check the system, but I've been too lazy to pursue it.

All in all, I'm very glad that I had the larger tank installed and would make the same decision again without any question.

Your question and my initial response got me to thinking about my truck so I just went to the Transfer Flow website and noted the following:

How will the larger replacement tank affect the truck’s trip computer?

Most of the functions will still work, except the miles-to-empty feature. It will read as though you have the stock tank still installed.

Will my stock fuel gauge read properly with your replacement tank?

Yes, your stock fuel gauge will read accurately when our larger tank is installed on your vehicle, so when you gauge reads 1/2 tank, you have approximately 1/2 tank of fuel.

Maybe this is why I questioned the readings from the trip computer?? :scratchchin: However, I do generally agree with Transfer Flow's statement regarding the accuracy of the fuel gauge readings with the new, larger tank.

I saw this on there web But i have also read on some on line forums that you can reprogram that computer. When I went to my Ford Dealer to discuss they looked at me like i was from another planet. So rather than trust someone on an unknown forum i thought I would post. I think it can but done but as you experienced how well can it be done.

Just looking for someone who has crossed that bridge with this truck that can take the guessing out of it.
