The BFG supertour and first Majors race way out West is on this weekend at California Speedway Roval. If you haven't seen a spec miata race at AAA Cal Speedway it is similar to the nascar push trains where two spec miatas hook up in a train and can carry as much as 4-5 miles an hour more than a singe car on it's own! A three car train is a little hairy and doesn't work as well. The fun part, no such thing as a big lead at this track. With some rain showers in the forecast it should be a fun one!

I was hoping we might see some of the fast Oregon crowd down for this race, but only a couple of cars from Northern California are making the trip down. Some questions after the first SOPAC races of the year at Inde Motorsports Ranch remain, will Clement Lee have a car to race after the unfortunate incident at Inde? Will Steven Powers continue his strong performance with his New Car? Will Dean Busk win again on the Roval? Elliott Skeer is entered with his 99 will he show everyone what a year in MX5 cup has taught him? Will the Mazda Teen Challenge 1.6 drivers Charlie Hayes and Joey Jordan be competitive on a Roval with the 99'S? Will DonThibaut be as fast as always only running a few races a year? Will Grant Westmoreland put it all together?

Live timing will be available as well as the announcer feed at www.SCCA.com

Here is the entry list.

thanks for keeping us in the loop

Denny, It;s actually his little league DAD, Joe reporting.... First and only practice session was in the rain. Most West Coasters don't even own rains so only 8 or so competitors went out on track. Steven Powers was fastest. Charlie Hayes was 2nd Wesley Molino 3rd. Qualifying tomorrow. May try to go with a live stream from inside the Joeys car tomorrow if I can figure it out! Cal Speedway is in the heart of the Inland Empire and pretty good cell coverage so may try and broadcast. Will let everyone know.

Charlie Nice Run! From the perspective outside of the car....

Qualifying,,,,,mostly dry but a lake to navigate in the most important corner leading on the front straight and for those who have never been here, you shift ito 5th gear around the start finish line and go through NASCAR 1 and 2 all the way to the middle of the back straight before a 2nd or 3rd gear tight corner....They are flat out in 5th for what seems like an hour! Actually about 20-30 seconds....a long time. Anyway qualifying was in pairs... Hayes and Skeer, Lee and Westmoreland, Powers, Jordan and Busk with others filled in. Hayes and Skeer got seperated early on but, Captain Skeer navigated his way to leading the way to pole after 20 minutes of qualifying with Powers 2nd Jordan 3rd Lee Fourth and Hayes, fifthe Westmoreland then Busk, In the wild last 5 minutes with the track drying and Skeer and Hayes back together, Skeer pushed his former teen Mazda Challenge buddy Charlie Hayes in a 1.6 to the pole. Skeer was 2nd, Powers third Lee Fourth Westmoreland 5th Jordan 6th and Busk 7th, The rest of the field was a little over a second behind,

At the Start the Outside lane got a jump. Skeer was in the lead by Nascar 1 Skeer diving to the bottom and Lee going too, Jordan was on the outside all alone now but was a half a car ahead of Hayes with everyone in single file with Hayes. Going into turn 3 it was a mess,,,,, Skeer and Lee were clear, but it was similar to a black friday sale at Walmart with 3 wide no 4 wide no 5 wide heading into that tight 3rd corner...remember they are in 5th gear for a looooooong time.....What was left was Skeer and LEE out in front by 1-2 seconds then 3rd through 8th covered by a blanket.....

The rest of the race saw Skeer commanding the lead at the front with Lee in second. Skeer was very good the tricky corner leading on th the straight and held Lee at bay in secon. Lee Squeezed by one time into turn 3, but Skeer passed him right back at the exit., In the end Lee had a late problem with his car and that allowed Skeer to win by a wide margin, The big battle was for third between Hayes, Powers, Busk, Launchbaugh and Westmoreland. This battle had a different leader every lap, then towards the end the back started to crack. First it was Westmoreland who went out with 5 or 6 laps to go with a flat tire, Launchbaugh was next and dropped back with 2 to go(fuel) finally it was Busk sliding back on the last lap (fuel) Hayes and Powers battled hard with Hayes coming out 3rd Powers 4th either Busk or Jordan 5th or 6th (neither was sure who finished ahead) and Wesley Molino 7th.

Good hard racing without too many incidents.

The STL race which was a little cooler saw some of the double dippers go really fast with skeer getting down in the 2:01's and Jordan and Launchbaugh close behind in the 2:02 flat range, should make it interesting tomorrow

I failed in getting it to Live Stream from Joey's car, but I am hopeful that I will get it going correctly tomorrow. Stay tuned... It will be on Justin tv if I can get it going.

Have a great night! We are having fun here at Fontucky #theotherroval

By far the best qual session I have ever had. Track is fast today, the old Rampleberg record was a 2:00.721. Skeer was at a 2:00.194 and I did a 2:00.264. Should be a great race!!!

Well I can say between qualifying and the first 2 laps I still had fun. Frustrated that the gear box got stuck in 4th on the front straight on lap 3. Would have been an amazing race. crap happens on to the next one. Video we be up after my 6 hour tow. See all you fellas later.
