Has anyone run 215/45-17 Toyo R888's on their stock suspension MazaSpeed Miata (2004). Do they rub the fenders cornering on track? Better to stick with 205/40-17?

HaHa...those are foreign numbers here! Wheel offsets vary...start there, then wheel width, then ride height, then rolled fenders etc,etc.

Went into the Miata.Net Garage Archives and learned more than I really wanted to know on the topic.

Learned 17 inch wheels on a track Miata is foolish.

Will be ordering TRMotorsport C3M 15/9 wheels wrapped in Toyo RA-1 225/45-15 rubber.

Any other suggestions for an HPDE (advanced) week-end warrior (for now)?

Much better choice! Even if you are advanced, find a competent SM driver to sit co-pilot for a day and run data! If your planning to go wheel to wheel anytime soon, this will be time and money well spent! Have fun!

Where will you be getting your track time?  If its Summit Pointe there are LOTS of folks here ready to help out.  You will have to roll the fenders with ANY race tire.  What brakes are you going to use?  I would recommend CarboTech.  Do you have hardtop and full cage?  If no hard top you will need arm restraints.

I had 17" MSM rims on my '99 10AE.  It rode and handled like crap.  It didn't help that they were very heavy too.

I have no aspirations to run wheel to wheel in all out racing format.

I will leave that to the experts like you! Maybe someday work my way into being an HPDE instructor, but for now it is just the pure joy of being on track and the need for speed.

This is just a passion for me and my 70-80 hour work week limits my opportunity to get "out there for seat time". 

Am a NASA member and have run Watkins Glen, Pocono, Summit Point and VIR and have always found the people at the NASA events (like you all?) to be amazingly open to discussion, helpful in solving problems and great teachers in discussing all aspects of driving, car prep and ideas to make the whole driving experience that much better. It is one of the things that draws me to the sport. 

Hopefully with my new project I can get out there a bit more and hopefully bump into a few of you guys. Would be a pleasure to learn for the experienced big dogs!
