What an entertaining race, so may stories, so many sub plots, so many unhappy people

Props to Lewis Hamilton for his conduct on the victory podium when interviewed, a real touch of class, really earned my respect.

Good example of how its so much better to be a Spec Miata driver than an F1 driver:  If a pitting SM were to pull into the wrong pit stall, other teams would pitch in to help.  Obviously, F1 has a lot to learn from SM!

Props to Martin Brundle for asking the appropriate questions!  Best podium "non-celebration" I've ever seen.

Vettel is Shumi, Webber is Rubins.

I've always like Lewis, bust as Danny said his behavior on the podium was brilliant.

I admire the ability, but lets not get carried away with one act of decency :) Lots of whiner cry bay moves over the last few years as well. I think this year will be harder on Hamilton than many believe. Rossberg has been faster than every team mate he has ever been matched against. Rossberg was faster than Hamilton today. They will be very evenly matched team mates and I think Rossberg will be regarded a much bigger talent than many thought before.  He may be off to Ferrari if there are man more days like today. :) I will say Hamilton is probably the best passer I have ever seen in F1.

Pretty crappy on Vettels part. I sure hope he doesnt need Webers help at the end of the year as I dont think it is happening. :)

I can only guess that Vettel thinks he is the fastest driver in F1 (which is probably right) and therefore he can get away with anything because every team would love to have him.

It reminds me of other people you run across in life that don't think rules should apply to them because they are special.

IMO, it is quite possible Weber could had held him off if not 'ambushed'.

Seeing Hamilton drive into the McLaren pits was the second funniest thing I can remember in F1.

Don't forget the gamble that Ferrari and Alonso got very wrong. Force India and their eBay wheel nuts missed a chance for good points. Varsha got it right, it looked like a Prost Sena podium.

Well DUH! How's that any different than Senna or Schumi?

Ferrari and Alonso got very wrong

That was all Alonso. Ferrari was ready for him to pit.

Am I the only one who thinks Vettel looks like Justin Bieber?

Bieber does not shave yet and apparently neither does Vettel, so yes....you may have a point.

I guess I'm odd man out here. We've got two team drivers running P2 and P4 believing they are being held up by a teammate in front of them. If I'm a team owner I want all my drivers to believe they're faster and better than their counterparts and to take advantage of every legitimate passing opportunity. As pointed out above, the historic drama of F1 includes exactly this sort of tension between team drivers. It's in the DNA and history of the sport and levens the ortherwise bland nature of these uber anal folks. BTW, My guess is that if P4 had been a multiple world champion, he'd have been a lot less sanguine position over his team orders.

Rick

P.S. In the spirit of full disclosure, I must admit that I favor Vettel, don't like Ferrari's much, and think Hamilton is a bit of a whinner.

I agree with your post. Not sure I really have a favorite. Just like good racing.  Hard not to like these guys, they are all bad ass. If I had to rank my choices this year on who I route for...

Button,Alonso,Kimi,Rossberg ( Rossberg again if he is ahead of Hamilton) any of the smaller teams and their drivers.  I never really root for Hamilton or Vettel, but man they sure are good! I often find my self applauding them anyway though. Just awesome.

Jim,

Remember that conversation we were having here last year about Vettel and that it didn't matter how many championships he had won, and I still felt he had a lot of maturing to do before he could be considered in the same class as Alonso, Gurney, Stewart, Brabham, Senna, and Prost?

Sunday was an example of what I was talking about. Great driver, but still a bit of a baby. And it wasn't just that he defied team orders. It was him complaining that Mark was slow and should get out of the way even though he wasn't even in DRS range of Webber. Nico showed he was a better champion than Vettel and he has never won an F1 championship.

Vettel showed what it takes to be champion, Nico and Hamilton showed what it takes to posses character. To be truely great he will need to demonstrate both and I don't think he is capable of that until he drives in a car that is less than the best.

The funny bit was how long it took the McL guys to pull the jack away. Intentional? I can hear the radio in my mind, "Take your time, Mate... hold him there for another 10 seconds. Our boy won't be in for another 20 or 30...."

Jamz

It should come as no surprise.. but many of the truly great drivers are often selfish and egotistical. Same can be said for some SM drivers :)

You are comparing apples to oranges..  when comparing the greats of all time.. Vettel is now and will always be on that list. Is he a good guy? Baby? Don't really know, but doesn't change my opinion of him behind the wheel.

I have said this before, I don't respect anyone as a person because they can drive a race car.   We all root for who we like and like them for different reasons. I root for Alonso a lot and I know he can be a whiner and a baby too. Just a personal preference.

No respect awarded either and that was my point. The arguement was given that he was champion 3 times and deserved our respect just because of that fact. He is champion, but he isn't no Gurney. Not yet anyway. Maybe when he grows up.
