I think I'll be drunk most of the week and i'm still finalizing some outfits for the week.

Webb my suit actually fits nicely now with no toe, all I had to do is drop 50lbs.

I'm not giving an order....

  • D. McKeaver:  Will be strong - knows the place better that the local groundhogs.
  • Charlie Hayes:  Having a killer year, should continue.
  • Joey Jordan:  Won a bunch of races this year, I think he is the SoCal/West SCCA Majors Champ (someone please correct me if I'm wrong)
  • Mr. Lamb:  If he shows up it will be game-on.  (Todd, be sure the car is purple :D )
  • Tyler Vance:  If he shows up should be in the mix.
  • Hille:  If he can keep the inside of his motor on the inside of his motor he'll be at the pointy end.
  • MiataCage:  If they drive like it's the 25hr, LOOK OUT!

I am hoping I can keep an engine running under the hood to keep up with the front pack.

Well it sounds like all my early pics(4 for sure)...at least from NorCal have pulled out :(

Because he will be on a Ironman trip for the next month...I will be routing for Joey Jordan to finish high. Hope he finds a dance partner!

If the Oregon boys can stay together...they will look like the Eaststreet of the West and be really tough to get through or around :)

Just a quick note:  If you plan to run up front (or know someone who is) and you have a 1.8 engine, be prepared to tear the head down.  Meaning we intend to use the go-no go tooling NASA purchased to check valve relief and the throats.  Have the tools or find someone who does to remove random intake and exhaust valves when instructed to do so.

I'm not driving this year so I'll be in the Tech Shed a lot...

My motto this year is:  Leave the BS at home, earn your position, and have fun.

I emailed this out last night to those who were on the registration list for the Championships event...  I'm posting it here in case someone checks this site more often than their email.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~  ~ ~ ~

It’s only a few days until you'll participate in the 2013 NASA National Championships! Most have run one of these big events so much of this will be familiar, but there are some important points and times in this email so please read it carefully.

For those who don't know me, I'm the SM National Director for NASA, I'm the jackwagon who writes the rules and works with SCCA to keep them as close the same as we can.   I'll also be your Series Director for the event, in charge of car/class questions, impound and tech. I'm not racing this year (crashed in Feb and still haven't finished my new car) so I'm not sure where most the time...  Just txt me if you have questions or need my help.

WHEN YOU CHECK IN ASK IF THERE IS A DEDICATED SM PADDOCK AREA... I'VE REQUESTED AN AREA FOR US IN THE OPEN PIT AREA BUT DON'T SEE IT ON THE MAP.  IT MAY BE ON A NEWER MAP AT CHECK-IN.

ON-TRACK SCHEDULE:
http://www.nasaprora...2013_Ver1 6.pdf (SM is running in Group B)

MEETING SCHEDULE:

  • Race Drivers Meeting will take place on Wednesday,September 4th.  Time: 6PM.  There will be a welcome gathering put on by NASA and Miller with some free food and drink. Please come and meet officials and drivers from all over the country.  Location:Legends Hall. Attendance is required by the
    driver or their delegate.

  • There will be an automatic penalty of being moved to last starting position for the first qualifying race for missing the Drivers Meeting .

RACE DIRECTOR:
We are very fortunate to have Jeremy Croiset as our race steward.  Jeremy an accomplished racer with multiple NASA Championships won in 2012  (HC & Spec Z) but he is an officer with NASA, so he understands most issues from all angles.  Jeremy will be conducting meetings at the event, attendance will be mandatory.  These meetings are key vehicle to distribute information, so to state it again attendance will be mandatory unless you make other special arrangements with Jeremy or me.

Jeremy will handle all issues and questions regarding on-track conduct and race results, you will meet him at the MANDATORY MEETING wed night. Let's make his job easy by making high percentage moves while on-track.  If we collectively keep the red-mist at bay and make good decisions we’ll all be able to drive our cars up on our trailers for the trips home and have positive memories of our time tougher.

TECH:
All technical questions should be directed to me and not the guys in the tech area…  I will be working very close with them so I'll get you answers if I don't know, just let them do their work.

  • Don't monkey around with the rules, it's just not worth it.  Please bring a clean car, earn your finishing position and have fun.
  • If you are concerned about someone else not having a compliant car then read up on the protest process and move forward as you see fit.
  • We will be sending cars to the Dyno - if you are sent you will not be allowed anywhere near your car during that process.
  • Don't be surprised if at sometime your ECU is requested by tech.
  • Don't be surprised if a NASA official puts a self contained Traqmate unit in your car.  If it is tampered in anyway you'll be DQ'd from that session.
  • If you are sent to the tech shed bring tools, a jack and jack stands.
  • If you finish in the top four for the Championship Race bring ALL YOUR TOOLS - including a way to remove valves from your cylinder head (1.8 only) - If warranted we fully intend on checking valve relief cuts and throat sizes, meaning if the go/no-go tool fits you're DQ'ed.

OTHER STUFF:
I’m not going to go really far into what I expect from you guys because all of you should know already how to conduct yourselves. But, here are a few to build your mind-set from:

Event Regs (read them): http://www.nasaprora...mps2013_1.1.pdf

  • Per the event regs SM is running spec fuel for all qualifying, qualifying races, and races at the Championships.  If you don't have a fuel sample port txt me before 9pm Tuesday (9/3) so I can bring you one (cost is $78).
  • SM is great because we race really close and hard but good sportsmanship is a requirement throughout this entire event.  If you stray from this there will be consequences ranging from grid penalties to expulsion from the event or worse.  So, keep your cool, be reasonable with everyone and you’ll be okay.  I've done a bunch of these Championships now, no BS will be tolerated.
  • Be on time to meetings or designate a proxy to attend for you.  If you can let me (txt) or our Race Director know if someone is standing in for you.
  • Mind the flag stations and don’t pass under yellow!  If you do you’ll be DQed for that session.
  • Say no to stupid divebomb passes!  Reckless and dumb-low-percentage moves that result in body contact will be dealt with swiftly and you’re not gonna like what happens to you if you caused it.  Read the CCR section on passing, know it and follow it.
  • If you have the ability to record video please do so every session.  It may keep you from getting DQed when you did not pass under yellow (when indeed you didn't) or may exonerate you from an avoidable contact situation.
  • Be on grid with at least 15 minutes early for our sessions and know your starting position.  If you don’t where you start you may end-up starting DFL.
  • Do. Not. Pass. Under. Yellow. (worth it to say again)

If NASA offered a past champions provisional option I would have been down. Miller is a fun track. Good luck to all!

PS the 1.6's are strong there
