Since the cat is out of the bag, here is what we ran at NOLA

LF; SM6, 2 heat cycles, higher pressure with decrease in negative camber

RF; SM7 stickers, lower pressure, normal camber

LR; SM7, 3 cycles, high pressure, normal camber but additional toe out

RR; SM6, stickers, normal pressure, more negative camber with toe in

OMG, someone hit print and is taking that to the track for the next race.

I think what Dave should have tried was toe out in the LF and toe in on the RF.

And then in the next session, try the same in the rear.

Hey, at a National a few years ago we had guys with RA1's on 1 side of the car and 888's on the other side and these were guys who came with the intention of winning.  As I recall neither of them did.

Just curious - remember when the whole Ferrari/McLaren cheating scandal happened a few years ago?  (The year Louis Hamilton and Alonso were running McLarens).  They were running CO2 in their tires instead of whatever the heck else they normally run in order to prevent graining.  Has anyone tried it or are there any technical difficulties that woudl prevent that experiment (running Co2 instead of nitrogen or just air)?

I'd suspect CO2 would be extremely volatile pressure wise in gas form.  The neat thing about CO2 is that it's a self regulating gas when it is in mixed liquid/gas form.  This is why cheaper paintball guns run off of CO2.  However this pressure is about a thousand PSI if I remember right, not the 10 psi or whatever f1 tires need.

I can't see why putting it in tires would be a good idea.

And all I really want to know is if the front splitter on a SM really works is it just a sexy appendage???

If a guy were to do a with/without spoiler/splitter brake rotor temp test, a guy could get the answer and than that guy could let the Spec Miata crowd know, all in the interest of saving many in the Spec Miata crowd the cost of testing.

ps  My guess is at Road America it has a overall negative impact.

If you don't know....then I dang sure don't know.... :)

But here's what I think....the lip helps more air into the bigass hole in front of the radiator which creates more drag. The minimal air that is deflected from under the car does not really help with lift like a properly designed splitter. That bigass hole in the front of a miata also sucks up most of the air that is directed upwards.....but it looks cool.. :)

Interesting debate.  I think only a wind tunnel solves it.  I'd argue it's a plus but this opinion not even worth $.02.  It'll add a little frontal area but may lower cd.  More air under the car without spoiler, particularly if running negative rake not a plus.  Creates pressure and drag under car.  No spoiler may decrease downward force in corners which is not good.

Wind tunnel pretty expensive per hour but if someone had already done it with a SM and kept it quiet, it wouldn't shock me.

All that will do is make your steering wheel crooked. Front wheels will naturally find their own center...

I run it for the cool factor........  No data to support whether it is better or worse for performance.

Without one, the car just doesn't "look right" for me.
