Williams and Zeller were fcy...

Took the region way to long to tow the two cars...

Neither car was really in harms way both at separate spots on the track both with broken diffs.

Lots of very rough driving and lots of people were driven wide into the grass over and over, personally it was emberassing IMO to the class.

Congrats to Voytek Novak and bednarz.

Congrats to Voytek! He is as tough as they come. Also, a WAY TO GO to Novak and Hille. Looking forward to hearing the details, looked like Novak was right there for 3/4 of the race.

Thoughts, is this ^ because of the open-ness of the track and lack of walls???

Thoughts, is this ^ because of the open-ness of the track and lack of walls???

This is just my opinion. there was just more ambition then tallent.  I have had the cat bird seat to many races in the last couple years,  It was some so not so flattering driving this weekend from many.  running into others in a corner most times shows a limit to your tallent. lots of dented cars from satuday, sunday was a much cleaner race with mostly no contact, the track conditions streched the field very fast, my car which had mostly been to tight for my driving style was to lose turning left today with no changes made,  I was off it seemed almost as much as I was on.

I cannnot use power as an excuse as I can could clearly see from sharing data with Voytek I had all the power he had (In the purple rental car) I just couldnt drive the setup that he can, I am convinced I could learn to with some time, but its a totaly differnt approach, one I am not used to.

Huge thanks to Advanced Auto for letting someone so squarly planted in the East Street camp, rent the car, and try to throw eveytrhing they possibly could at that car to make me more confortable driving it.  Great food and great commaradarie under the tent, late night dringking beer with ann and dave under the tent till midnight, talking about random stuff.  Anyone who wants to rent a car and get some really great benifits as well as the absolutly most fair prices for the car should think seriously about renting from them/

Huge congrats to Voytek, who just ran a perfect race on sunday with a car that was clearly not the rock star on the straights.  Thanks to him for openly sharing data with me all weekend as wel as trying to bring me up to speed on how to drive that setup, all the while pouring me a shot of patron...

I cant wait to get back into my own car for the Cat, but it sure was nice to be able to rent a very nice car from some nice people...

Mike Novak ran a really fantastic race till a 1:54 lap took him out of contention.  Andersen 2 and Seth Rolan had the hard chargers for sure from being taken out in t1 at the start to coming back through the field to make a podium threat.

The region did a much nicer job of not throwing double yellows for nothing today, and after being put off into the sand and getting a wheel full of wet sand and taking turn1 in the grass and doing a u turn into pit out to keep a yellow from coming out for me I never heard a word for making that move,  I was more intent on not bringing out a yellow then breaking a stupid rule.

Novak had anouther front hub failure. So whatever Mike is doing with hubs don't do that. It is not working.

Hub failure from the last of our new stock of hubs...  Chuck Caldwell-my mechanic thought that the hub felt funny after the STL race on Saturday ---I grabbed it and I couldnt feel anything so I said leave it.....   Mistake on my part---I am not sure that the hub was so bad as the amount of grease that was coming out of it...The hub had been in the car and inspected every run and for some reason the grease was everywhere inside the wheel. This hub had been on the car since MID O.

We will only be running used repacked hubs going forward, as we had VERY few failures in the past up until late last year.

Congrats to Voytek   He drove a mistake free race and hub failure or not would have more then likely won. I enjoyed racing with him all weekend --except turn 10 on the last lap of Saturdays race...  :)

Sat race after the restart was some of the craziest racing I have been part of---I am sure someone will post some video from it....

Kyle in my race they had local yellows every where and a FA stop on track of the apex of 6/7 for almost the entire race and we never went FCC. Consistency was inconsistent. That being said all those who stayed on track good about being safe around all the yellows.

Hope everybody enjoyed the weekend. Note-regions don't make the call on double yellows; the stewards do. With that being said, it is my opinion that the two cars off the track on Saturdays race were far enough off track and double yellows were not necessary.  More input welcome.

Gingerman may not be a glamorous race track, with 50 years of history. Nor is it a high speed, suck it up, hold your breath track. But it is always a well run event. Plenty of good food/drink on Saturday, friendly track management and great organization by Spec Miatas own Jeff lucky #76.

Mike and Voytek pounded it out all weekend. Too bad they touched on Saturday. Mike was pretty upset after the race, but they hugged (literally) and made up in impound.

Too bad about Mike's bearing on Sunday, Voytek had one starting to make noise also.

Tech following qualifying was nothing. Not even weights. Just the same goofy driver meeting as every other Major. This needs to be eliminated as a simple waste of our time.

Following Saturday they checked weight, alternator output and fuel sample. I saw a wheel width tool and the track width tool, but that may have been in the STL group.

Following Sunday we went over the goofy scale system with Mr Friendly doing the math. Then had upper intakes pulled on P1 and P2. Throttle bodies where looked at as well as restrictors.

In T4 they checked camber as we went through the scale house.

I give impound a B+, would have been better without Mr Friendly.

Our Stewart motors may not be the most powerful out there. But I have run them for 6 years with zero engine failures. And I know they are 100% legal to the intent of the rule book.Feel free to tear them down any time.

All in all, a great event at a small club racing track. More of you should try to make next years race.

Dave

Very big thanks to Dave Wheeler, Chuck Caldwell and Mike Novak, Ralph Provitz, Justin Hille, Dave Bednarz, and Juan Marchand.  All had some part....big or small, in getting my car back on track Sunday!  Too bad Justin had to pick Sunday to be his first Majors podium  :)

After getting rear ended, the diff carrier broke one lap later, I still had enough momentum to pull off into what I thought was a very safe runoff area.  I fully expected to sit out the duration of the race.  I was surprised to see the corner worker come and tell me a tow was on the way.   I saw where Zellers' car was located and thought it was not in a dangerous area as well.  But, still hard to Monday morning quarterback these calls.  The stewards would have been under more serious criticism if someone had hit one of the disabled cars.

All in all, a fun event, definitely some "rough" or crazy driving as mentioned by Mike and Kyle....the track does not help in this situation.  The first turn is less than 1/8 mile from the start, and the pace car exits less than 1/8 mile to the starter stand.  That basically puts 28 miatas three/four wide, and still packed like sardines, into a 90 degree turn one to begin thus setting the tone for the race........kinda of looks like the picture of Watkins Glen posted in the forums a week ago, but with much safer runoff area!

With the exception of the starting issue, the track is definitely a very safe track located in a gorgeous area of Michigan, and the event is typically very well run.  Thanks for helping to make the weekend possible Jeff!

Congrats to Burdzy, Novak, Bednarz and Hille for the podium appearances!  Now everyone should come to Grattan!

Dave,

I wasn't there but I'm pretty sure Costa went over the start/restart procedures (where to start forming up, maintain the pace car speed after it pulls off, no stepping out of line before the green, etc.) for every group's drivers meeting. I know Jeff Luckritz requested that he do so after the restart fiasco at the Sprints so I'm pretty sure it happened for the SM group at least.

Granted it seems like a waste of time since common sense things like that should not have to be reiterated, but (as we all know from experience) common sense ain't common.

This is correct.. Also how far you could scrub tires into --with a marker...
