First let me thank the crew, Ann, Megan (the California girl), Brian, Andrew, Ben, Bob, Adam and both Kyles for a nearly flawless weekend of maintaining 14 cars to 3 checkered flags.
We even had dueling driver coaches, as both Todd Lamb and Jim Pace where working with Advanced customers.
Saturday:
Group 1 had Danny Bender winning the T4 race in his MX5, with the usual group of SM drivers filling the field in STL.
Group 4 had Tom Brown and Voytek Burdzy on the all Advanced Autosports front row, with Todd Lamb and Justin Elder right behind. Elder had a loose looking hood and was shown a black flag for 2 laps (wrong move by the officials as it looked totally safe to me). Justin ignored the black flag and was eventually given a 2 position penalty for ignoring the black flag. Probably the correct move in hind sight by Justin. BUT, you have to obey the black and the penalty was justified in my opinion.
Burdzy and Lamb showed how to do it at Road America. Racing hard, side by side, passing multiple times with out touching on the last lap. Burdzy had the better line coming out of turn 14 and earned a hard fought victory, with Tom Brown completeing the Advanced podium sweep
Sunday started the same way, Bender was leading the T4 race when the transmission left him with no forward gears about half way through the race.
The Sunday SM race looked about the same as Saturdays. Except Lamb and Burdzy gapped Elder and Brown early and settled the race themselves. The race came down to the last 2 laps. Again multiple lead changes, but this time they actually touched. Not a mark on either car, but rubber transfered from Voyteks left wheels to Todds right wheels and vice-versa. Hows that for equally matched cars!!!!????? Officially the margin of victory was 0.053 seconds or about 2 feet. Justin Elder came home in 3rd and Tom Brown fourth.
This gives Voytek the National points championship with a perfect 7 Majors victories. Road America (2), Gingerman (2), Blackhawk (2) and Nola (1) to go with three 2nd place finishes at Mid Ohio (2) and Nola.
As usual, it was great working with all my drivers. Great having Todd Lamb and Ted Cahall under the tent and Kyle Webb even came by at lunch time.
See you all at Grattan
