First let me thank the crew, Ann, Megan (the California girl), Brian, Andrew, Ben, Bob, Adam and both Kyles for a nearly flawless weekend of maintaining 14 cars to 3 checkered flags.

We even had dueling driver coaches, as both Todd Lamb and Jim Pace where working with Advanced customers.

Saturday:

Group 1 had Danny Bender winning the T4 race in his MX5, with the usual group of SM drivers filling the field in STL.

Group 4 had Tom Brown and Voytek Burdzy on the all Advanced Autosports front row, with Todd Lamb and Justin Elder right behind. Elder had a loose looking hood and was shown a black flag for 2 laps (wrong move by the officials as it looked totally safe to me). Justin ignored the black flag and was eventually given a 2 position penalty for ignoring the black flag. Probably the correct move in hind sight by Justin. BUT, you have to obey the black and the penalty was justified in my opinion.

Burdzy and Lamb showed how to do it at Road America. Racing hard, side by side, passing multiple times with out touching on the last lap. Burdzy had the better line coming out of turn 14 and earned a hard fought victory, with Tom Brown completeing the Advanced podium sweep

Sunday started the same way, Bender was leading the T4 race when the transmission left him with no forward gears about half way through the race.

The Sunday SM race looked about the same as Saturdays. Except Lamb and Burdzy gapped Elder and Brown early and settled the race themselves. The race came down to the last 2 laps. Again multiple lead changes, but this time they actually touched. Not a mark on either car, but rubber transfered from Voyteks left wheels to Todds right wheels and vice-versa. Hows that for equally matched cars!!!!????? Officially the margin of victory was 0.053 seconds or about 2 feet. Justin Elder came home in 3rd and Tom Brown fourth.

This gives Voytek the National points championship with a perfect 7 Majors victories. Road America (2), Gingerman (2), Blackhawk (2) and Nola (1) to go with three 2nd place finishes at Mid Ohio (2) and Nola.

As usual, it was great working with all my drivers. Great having Todd Lamb and Ted Cahall under the tent and Kyle Webb even came by at lunch time.

See you all at Grattan

Dave

Thanks for the update Dave, and Congratulations to you guys! I really enjoy racing Voytek, you know you are in for a battle all day!

Also, sounds like 2 of the best coaches I have been around were under the tent. Personally, Lamb was a big help to me learning Road Atlanta this year, and Pace has been instrumental to my speed at Road America.

Congrats to all.

Was fun on Sat. watching from the T5 with Ann seeing who would pop out first over the hill at entry to T5 and after T13.     Ann can screech with excitement.  :cheering:

Congrats to Dave, Voytek and my good friend Tom Brown, for a good weekend, and championship.

Congrats to Todd also as I know he had fun racing door to door, it was exiting to watch even if it was  on just race monitor.

I wish everyone could race door to door without Mishaps.

Something I forgot this morning. I have been critical of the Road America stewarding over the past few years. But when they get it right, I need to compliment them. The Saturday call on Justin was "ifey" at best.

On Sunday with 3 laps to go, a car died going into turn 8 (my rental with a bad cam sensor) and another car had issues at turn 7. The officials first made sure everyone was safe. Then the corner and rescue personel where instructed to get clear so the leaders could "race" through the turn 7 and 8 area under green flag conditions on the last lap.

This wisdom and fore thought is what I hope will be continued by the officials at all SCCA events, but especially at Majors and the Runoffs.

Drago, Wheel, Butch, please forward my appreciation to the correct people.

Dave

I had a great weekend racing with a bunch of good friends...

Got some personal lead follow and some coaching from the new national points champs, who has helped me alot recently.  thanks and congrats to you Woytek!

Congrats to my bud Down town T Brown for a very nice podium and even more so for an opening day Pole Possition vs lamb and Burdzy!!!!

Dr. Pogo and most of the other polish faithful has made me feel like I am one of the regulars, Lamb drank my beer, Had some great racing with Mellons and Ted Cahall on Saturday, till one ill faited move to get a p5 finish left me 1mph short on tallent.

Ann's home cooking was great as usual, and just the nice laid back family atmosphere in the advanced paddock has been very enjoyable for me and my crew the last two majors weekends!

Thanks also to the crew at advanced always willing to help us by lending a tool or a hand when we needed some extra help, Brian, Adam, Ben and the chim chims.

Congrats to Voytek and Dave on the weekend sweep.  I had an all-around fun weekend as is usual at Road America despite Saturday's 2-position penalty for ignoring a black flag.  In regards to that, I knew my hood was latched and was not going to open.  If I would have pitted my race would certainly be over and I was in 2nd place at the time.  Also, a pit road steward found my crew chief and told him they were going to retract the black flag and would speak to me after the race.   He did not say it was imperative I pit now for everyone's safety etc etc....

In hindsight I take the 2-position penalty as the stewards way of saying, "throwing the black flag in this situation was a very borderline call by us so your penalty is just 2 positions."

What would you all do in this situation?

Question is was this how your hood normally sits or is it the stock latch that had not hooked and was on the safety hook?

Great to get some coaching from Lamb. Best money spent to date.  Helped me to a personal best lap time on test day.  Spent Saturday struggling to get the hands and feet to follow the new instruction. Sunday flowed better and felt I was punching above my weight racing with the guys I saw around me. Thanks to Kyle for the use of the cave for data/video sessions.  Congrats to Voytek and Advanced.  Always appreciate Ann's cooking and Dave's effort to get things exactly the way the customer wants. Brian, Ben, Andrew, and Tyler make a great team.  Thanks for the confidence to drive the car hard.  Thanks also to all the other SM drivers that make these weekends memorable.  Now for some new tracks...

Fun weekend! Wish there had been a better turnout to mix things up, but Voytek and I had some great side-by-side racing for the last 3-4 laps of each race. Doesn't get much more fun than that!

Ted Cahall had a great weekend, with two 5th place finishes to seal his qualifications for the Runoffs. Thanks to Ted for letting me race - he got his finishes all on his own.

Tyson did a great job learning some new tricks. It is so satisfying to work with a new client and see improvement. And was so proud to use Ted as an example of what to do when watching Tyson's video of chasing Ted around in Sunday's race. Really makes my weekend more than anything else.

Thanks to all the guys at Advanced Autosports - great job by a very organized crew.

And thanks to Hawk Performance, Driven, Mazda, Hoosier, Summit and the rest for their support.

Full disclosure: SMAC chairman, my opinions do not reflect anything to do with the SMAC unless specifically stated.
