Don't waste your money on track day tires! If your current street tires are round, black and hold air run them.

Bad advise unless you are going to putt around and waste your time. Or the other extreme in which you push a shitty street tire to the point of a "very quick" no return and find something hard to hit :(

Since we're opening the can of worms...

You may want to look at Build vs Buying, cost, satifaction, quality, etc.

I am definitely open minded about this. The goal is to prep my car so that its safe and fun to drive on tracks, but maintain street drivability. Doing this for 2 years, then see if I really want to get into racing, then I will make the final decision on whether building and buying. In the mean while, I'd like to build my car close to spec miata, as far as performance goes to get a feel how its going to be.

I think after tires/wheels and brakes, I will be buying the spec miata suspension kit.

Plus the tires at four corners are four different brands... two of them which I never heard of. I didn't even bother checking the sizes.

I doubt any clubs would allow me to drive on a track as of right now.

Buy some SM legal 15x7's and Dunlop ZII's and go have fun! They are cheap, last a long time and are a great tire to learn on.

D-force wheels will be available in about 2 weeks. I have 100 wheels expected later this month. 15 x 7, 25mm offset, legal 13 pounds.

Unless you have already done a suspension upgrade, whatever tire you choose is going to be under ulitized. So any learning you do must be quantified as "not quite a SM"

Suggestion, get the car close to SM suspension first, then worry about tires/wheels.

Suggestion #2, have fun

Would not recommend the SM suspension for maintaining street drive ability. There are, however, several good coil over systems in the $1,000 range which would offer great track behavior yet a civil street ride. The Tein setup on my 99 is great for the track but comfortable enough, with the adjustable dampening, for daily driving. And I have Dunlop Direzza ZII's and love them.

NITTO NT01 or RA1, whatever is cheaper as they have the same carcass.

There is another option for you.  Just install iRacing, and buy a ready, competitive Spec Miata.  That will be the
cheapest and best with no work, and tons of fun. :)

If its cheap I am all over for it. But I only see them come in as 30mm or 20mm. I thought 25mm was the best fit.

5mm spacers are cheap:
