The NASCAR Sprint Cup race at WGI just ended.  There was a pretty spectacular crash on the straight between the Carousel (Turn 5) and what would be Turn 10.  NASCAR doesn't use "the boot" section of track, so cars come wide out of the exit from turn 5, then flat out into turn 10.  One of the cars went WAY wide on the exit, and, as he came back across the track, bumped the nose of a car behind him.  That car bounced off the tires at the exit of Turn 9, spinning back onto the track into the middle of the pack, sending one of the other cars (literally) flying into the Armco at the inside of 9.

Nobody was hurt, but there was an impressive amount of damage to the cars and the barriers.  The race was red flagged for over an hour while the Armco was re-built.

Though I'm not a big NASCAR fan, it was a pretty exciting race, especially the last few laps.  The battle for first place went right down to the wire.  Watching those big, heavy, fast cars playing "chicken" going into the bus stop was really fun to watch.

Beyond impressive.. Especially after driving the track a month ago. Those cars at those speeds leaning on each other was REALLY impressive! No loser there, wish both Ambrose and AJ could have both won, what a race,

Not sure what else they could do with those barriers?  Lots to do if they changed them all.

There was some great action in the closing laps.  It's a shame there were so many wrecks.  As for how to fix the exit of the loop, they might consider putting one of the modern walls around the later part of the corner and take away all the extra pavement that is beyond the red and white stripe.  The transition from the widened exit area to the straightaway looks pretty abrupt. A big funnel there.   A wall there would slow the cars a bit and they would have to respect it like they do at most every other track they run on.
