There is a short loud screeching sound upon engaging the clutch to move the car forward or backwards. It appears to be coming from the middle of the car forward. Once moving, all is well. I can duplicate the sound while running on jack stands but cannot locate the source. I've checked all mounting points, brakes, wheels, hubs and listened with a funnel and tubing to the ear with no success. Suggestions???

Thanks,

Jim

Thank you. Having never had a throw-out bearing issue with any car, I'm a bit short on knowledge. We'll be doing a complete tear-down this upcoming off season after our last remaining race in two weeks. I'll be away for ten of those days so time is limited. Based on experience, would we able to run the last remaining race without replacing the bearing or is there a risk of damaging other components of the flywheel - clutch assembly?

Thanks again,

Jim

Not sure on damage but if it goes out you wont be driving very far unless you're a great rev matcher and can start the car in first gear!

mine whines,  its done so for a few trackdays, and some autocrosses.  its just a light sound that I can hear, but not a real screaming sound.

if it just started I would definitely run the one race ad deal with it.

Are you the type who sits in gear with his foot on the clutch?  (bad idea for lots of reasons) If so, you probably ought to replace it.  If you just use is quickly, you can probably get away with it.
