Hello all,

I am looking into purchasing an enclosed trailer in the off season. In all of my searching I keep coming back to a company called Pro-Line http://www.pro-linep...sed-Trailer.htm. The price is 2-3k less than just about every other brand I have looked at. For reference, my "wish list" is: 8.5'x20', heavy duty axles/tires, finished walls and ceiling, 110V electric, A/C, 48" RV style side door. The quote for the Pro-Line is about $8500 picked up in Roanoke or I could drive to Indiana to get it and save ~$700 after accounting for gas. I haven't found any other trailer that comes close to that.

First of all, do any of you have first hand experience with them? Good, bad, or indifferent I'd love to know what you think.

Second, is there anything in particular I should keep an eye out for when I go to look at them that would indicate good or bad quality?

Thanks for any input,

David

Do you know of a good site to view used trailers? Seems like every site I find only has 1 or 2 used trailers mixed in with a bunch of new but bare bones trailers. I found a few on Craigslist but two of them sold before I saw them and one was a scam.

Dave,

Took a quick look at the web site and felt like the equipment description was lacking.  One thing that is very important when getting into this size of trailer is the need for trailer brakes.  The site made no mention of the brakes (if any) being used or the wiring connector.  Most factory trailer tow packages ( 2" square receiver hitch) come with a 7 pin Pollack connector ( supports electric trailer brakes).

The other item I would make sure any trailer I purchased was equipped with would be Torsion Axles.  A low end/low cost trailer  typically uses leaf springs and shackles.  These are a durability nightmare as the springs rust/break and the shackle pins wear out (not to mention the "pivot link" ( don't recall the actual name this link s) between the two springs on each side also wear rapidly.

I prefer electric brakes vs hydraulic surge brakes as you can apply the brakes manually with the brake controller in the tow vehicle.  This can be a good safety feature to control a trailer that starts to whip and push the tow vehicle around.  ( Proper tongue load is the best prevention for this problem).

Thanks, guys.

The Pro-Line does come with 4-wheel brakes. I'll keep the torsion axles in mind while searching.

Not sure that torsion axles are necessarily better.  Plenty of equipment trailers out there that use leaf springs and shackles.  We have two 12 ton trailers that use springs and shackles.  Do your research.

My biased opinion is a Bravo trailer. First, I have known the owner for 20+ years and they are a site sponsor and SM racers.

Second because they make the nicest trailer around. Lots of little details that don't become important until the trailer is 4 years old and the cheap trailer is falling apart around itself. While the Bravo still works like new.

Contact Mitch, you will be happy.
