Ha, first time all month! Even a blind squirrel... and all that.

Of course in the real world we're trying to catch a draft, reducing the negative impact of aero drag and [b]increasing[\b] the benefits of any additional power. So what seems like a nearly dead heat side-by-side @ 100 mph turns into an easier pass than you might think even considering the draft because the closer you get the more those extra ponies are worth when rolling up behind someone.

I can't speak to your experience.  But the races I attended in 2014 the cars were pretty damn close in power.  Very close.....

 

But the difference between stock heads and 2014 legal plunge cut heads, are not within dyno noise.  It will be noticeable in my opinion.  So for me as an example, I am sitting until the rules come out to know if I need a new stock head or not.

Hi all, greetings from London. Been lurking from afar......

 

I am so looking forward to having fun times with my fellow drivers, sharing a beer or two swapping stories. The turnout is awesome (50 x SM drivers so far) and wonderful to see so many new names.

 

Having fun obviously means that we all make an effort to run heads up. I will be at Sebring for the Sebring TT with my CURRENT spec VVT. This engine has plunge cuts, relief cuts, correct compression and no STR work. It is a decent car, even held the lap record at Watkins Glenn for less than 24 hours, but is no means a dominant car. It should be able to hang and compete with all compliant cars. So I am personally hoping that most drivers will show up with similar cars, but I suspect that there will be some engines that are NON COMPLIANT to the current rule set, many perhaps without their drivers even knowing. And this is where it potentially stops being fun. No-one likes being motored by on the straights. 

 

In past years the Turkey Trot was a run-what-you-brung event, even going so far as to have a note that said ...."there will be no tech" in the supps. This year it is a double SARRC, so I hope that those chasing 2015 SARRC points will show up with compliant cars.

 

Hopefully the CFR SCCA will have a whistler there to check compliance on all SM motors, as it would be nice to at least get all the high compression motors sorted out this year, so that next year we are only dealing with the Stock Head vs Plunge Cut Head deal. Possibly they can also bring a borescope to visually inspect the STR's through the fuel injection port, without having to remove any heads.

 

Anyway, lets have fun, lets race heads up, lets clean up our class ourselves and show Mazda, SCCA, and NASA that we are worthy of being listened to.

Danny is correct and the Turkey Trot is for the very first time a double SARRC series race. With that, I hope all who come do bring compliant equipment. Would be bad to end the year with a DQ after all has been said since the Runoffs.

Just looked and the Turkey Trot at Sebring this coming weekend now has 337 entries with 67 SM cars. Looks like the big show is back on. Not too late to register and come run in what is going to be an average size field for SM at CFR events in 2015. You wanted racing, you got racing. And it's a double SARRC for 2015 season points.
