My latest letter to the CRB:

I write to propose that the SCCA CRB consider, adding John Mueller or a similar NASA representative to the SMAC, or alternatively, consider Joining a NASA representative on conversations relating to Rule making, such that the SM rules between SCCA and NASA will be consistent.

Recently Both SCCA and NASA promulgated new rules regarding the weight of the VVT cars 2001 to 2005. SCCA raised the weight to 2425 and NASA 2415.

While this is not a big problem, it demonstrates the problem, the goal of the two organizations should be to keep the rule set as close as possible. That can only happen if they collaborate in the rule making process.

Therefore I propose that a NASA member be on the SMAC for that purpose.

Logic has nothing to do with the rules, Frank!

Full disclosure: SMAC chairman, my opinions do not reflect anything to do with the SMAC unless specifically stated.

I'm kinda of a "states rights" guy.  Given that I think each organization should make their own rules decisions.  I don't see it as critical that both organizations adopt exactly the same ruleset and would encourage both to make their own decisions based on what they feel is best for their business/membership.   Both organizations may want to keep some information and deliberations to themselves and may want to operate on their own timetable so for that reason they may not want to merge into a single committee, but collaborate when it's mutually beneficial.

While many of us compete in both organizations. These sanctioning bodies are competing for our entry fees. I see no reason not to allow a NASA rep on SMAC calls once in awhile to keep the organizations close. But I do not feel a NASA rep should be a fixture on SMAC calls.  There is no need.

I'm with Jim. We don't even have NASA up here in the NW, but have other sanctioning bodies.....
