Posted this in another section but it seems like "General Discussion" is the right place?

I have been racing 911's for several years and am buying an SM to run in some long enduros with friends and maybe some SCCA and NASA races. I have a car in my price range fairly local that looks good, but I really have no idea what to look for. So far all I know is from the ad;

"1997 Spec Miata Race Car, 69,000 miles on chassis, 1.8 Litre, Torsen Diff, awesome Planet Miata cage, Saving Auto Center Built Engine & Chassis Prep, very nicely setup and clean car, 2 sets of wheels, 1 used set Hoosier R6s, 1 set of brand new Toyo RA1, spares include new Hawk Pads in box, new Front & Rear rotors. Ready to race. SCCA log book. 1:02s at Lime Rock Park. "

What should I be looking for? Car is in a snowed in trailer but he will start/run it while i'm there. I just ordered Dave's ver. #2 book but i'm going to look at this tomorrow.

Thank you for any help, i'll keep looking around here also.

Presume you know the location of Savings Auto Center S.A.C. Racing. Stratford, CT 203-375-6615

Ademir Fedumenti business owner and car crew chief

A couple drivers for S.A.C. Racing:

Elivan Goulart #70 car

Daniel Moen driver #73 car

Also I believe John Berg of Berg Racing would know of this car and these folks.

Many folks on this site know Ademir and Elivan.

i can vouch that the cage is stout....   think this might have been Gary Delea's car at one point.

since i along with other shop owners on this site constantly deal with newbie's buying their first SM, please take your time and look at everything.  ask as many questions as possible, use dave's book and don't jump the gun.

Yes, it was Gary's car Marc. Guy bought it from him and ran a few DE's, now wants out so the car is still pretty fresh time-wise since the SAC rebuild in 2012. Looked at it today, needs a new seat and harnesses, fresh tires, but thats' about it that I can see. Compression and leakdown are good. I was able to speak to Gary today also and ask some questions, was very helpful.

Outside the cage design, virtually everything else is a wear and replace item. I've got two cars with Planet Miata cages and they are well built. Unless you're replacing the seat with the same, I'd recommend discussing seat fitment with Marc as he obviously knows the cage better than anyone.
