KBB has started a neat project involving SM...  A dude wanted to go race a SM but didn't know where to start, this series is his journey toward our obsession.

I'm going to start with the 5th in the series, which shows more of the on track stuff.

The last episode is out. With John making some cameos. After watching that and reading the Glen thread is it any wonder why field sizes are down in many regions?  (Both from attracting new racers and a car attrition rate.  Many don't have spare cars sitting around. If the car gets totaled, it is off to other hobbies.)

As cool as it was to watch, I'm not sure if that helped or hurt the image of the sport and class. The last episode just perpetuated the "Spec Pinata" stereotype. I know that image is what kept me away from racing Miata's for so long. Once I figured out that is far from the truth in the South East, I started looking at Miata's again. He spent far too much time focusing on the close calls and wrecks and not nearly enough on what it takes to be fast in a race.

Also, am I the only one that thinks it is very unusual to post times from HPDE groups?

Varies by event org.  Some HPDE groups host time trial contests and/or provide free timing.

There's a much more conservative trackday culture back east.  Something about wet grass and trees instead of dirt and tumbleweeds.

Fontana was an especially exciting event for SM. Not a typical NASA event that is for sure.
