Jeremy - looks like it was a case of a missed shift ahead that caused the swing out and pass attempt that was poorly executed. Tough to know for sure. But as posted above, there will always be missed shifts. I have done my share of them and even did one at my last race. Went from the front row to dead last out of T1. In my case there was no contact as cars came passed me. Personally I am a fan of the rolling start, but I would hate to see it mandated.

Agree with you completely, Danny.  Done the same thing myself more than once -- hero to zero in the first hundred yards.  Not sure I'd place blame anywhere but on a sh1t-happens, too-slow start.

I don't often post on the site, but thought I'd chime in now that I've been able to download my footage of the start incident on Sunday.  Take a look and make your own mind up about what happened...

Best to all, see you at the track again soon.  Had a blast all weekend with the TMC drivers, and was surprised how strong my little home-built SM with a never-touched 1.6 crate motor ran on the banks.  Still lacking in torque off the corners and at the start, but ran strong around the oval.

Anyway, the issue wasn't the close-packed start or the number of cars or the age/experience of the drivers, the issue (in my opinion) was the speed of the start.  We were asking for trouble, and i think you'll see in the video what happened as a result of the slow start.

Thanks for posting.   Great angle for reconstructing my end of it.  You can even see my steering inputs.

Do you mean constant speed or leader accelerating?

Thanks for the video Jeremy, had a great time racing with you. Was a relief to see your car ahead of me or behind me because we were both able to focus on the long run, not dive bomb each other, and instead work together to catch the leaders in the last few laps, and that's exactly what we did! Not to mention it was fun to show others how it's done in our 1.6's, although by the sound of your video my diff is functioning a bit better than yours :) Check out some bump drafting features of you, Rob, and Justin in my bump drafting video I posted, 1000 views in 24 hours!

That's great fun, Matt, thanks for putting it together.  Love the pass at 1:50, it's like a scene out of Days of Thunder, without the bad acting!  Man, it's amazing how quick these little cars go in a draft.  Would be fun to do a couple of laps of the big oval, to see just how quick we could go.

And indeed, you and the rest of the TMC drivers proved talent beyond your years.  Had a great time racing with you, and would do it again on any track at any time.

I'm running the standard 1.6 viscous diff, and it just isn't capable of hooking up like the Torsen does; there's no question it's costing me time.  I just don't have the weight to spare -- 2290 as it is, and with the extra weight of the Torsen, what little advantage we gained in the weight-drop goes out the window.  Would be interesting to know whether the Torsen would make enough difference to overcome the weight though.  One day, perhaps...

Jeremy.
