Hey everyone, I've run into a little predicament with trying to find the right clutch to fit my newly built 1.8 engine. I was planning to just go with an ACT but the package I want is currently on backorder. Is there any brands that you are using that would be better but still reliable? The advice and help is always appreciated!

Thanks Johnny... forgot all about that. Jim is there any break in procedures I need to know? Why do you run a sprung vs. solid?

No break in... I prefer the unsprung.. I go through fewer transmissions than anyone I know and never had any issues with this set up.
I don't like the diesel truck feel of act pressure plate, all preference there though. Stick has more than enough clamping force.

Very SCCA way to handle his question, lets try to be more outgoing and friendly.

Dave or Jim,
Thoughts on sprung vs unsprung. A long time ago in my 1.6 I changed to sprung to be easier on comp diff. I figured (and was told) sprung was easier on drive-train. I've stayed with sprung since.
But, I'll bet unsprung is lighter..

You will be hard pressed to find more than a handful of people on this site that think the SCCA way regarding customer care is acceptable. Trying to help people enjoy the experience of spending thousands and thousands of dollars seems to be lost on the club. There are a few great people that I love dealing with, unfortunately there are about 10x as many people that think the racers are the least valuable component of the club.

I would estimate that 80% of the SM's out there are running the unsprung hub. It is lighter and thus a slight performance advantage. As well as being cheaper.
if you are having drivetrain problems, I would use the sprung hub.
Years ago I weighed several brands of clutches and found that the ACT 4 puck unsprung was lighter than any 3 puck I checked. I too was surprised.

I don't know about that. The people in my regional SFR chapter does a great job.
