In the E1 Class it was the No. 0 BMW of Grip Racing that took the win with drivers Tristan Littlehale, Joseph DePillo, Mark Mitchell, Harold Petit and David DePillo.

"I had my friends in the 0 car and it was fun to watch them win," Jason Vein, team owner said. "We had some contact with the winning Flying Lizard car in the by-pass that resulted in breaking a couple of wheels and a tie rod. We made it back in and the crew did a great job to fix the car and get it back in the race. We had to serve a penalty for changing two wheels, but we were able to overcome that as well and get the win."

E1

No. 0 Grip Racing 0 BMW, 615 laps

No. 95 Grip Racing 95, 607 laps

No. 42 THRW/Honda Racing 1, 601 laps

CORRECTION:  wrong E1 drivers listed...

Congrats to...me, Mark Drennan for winning E1 in the Grip Racing #0 Spec E46 BMW along with fellow SM co-drivers Mason Filippi, Brian Ghidinelli, fellow Spec Mustang co-driver Addison Lee, and fellow SCCA San Francisco Region co-driver Rylan Hazelton.

Fifth time's a charm for Brian and me...first time's a charm for Mason and Addison.

Correction: Wrong E3 drivers listed. Dan Cooper, Darin Polsley, Jaime Florence, and Phillip Holifield were driving Ron's winning car. Congrats to them as well as the Auger Acura and RJ who were apparently out on slicks in some heavy rain.

The ND cars were fast on track, two came in with really bad engine noises with only a few laps to go but managed to limp around for the photos at the end.

I will try and give  a Danny style race report soon...but a few quick words.

This is not an event you can walk into unprepared. Having always helped/crewed for a team the last 5 years I knew it was going to be a lot of work taking this on myself with 2 cars. OMG did I ever underestimate just what I was getting myself into :o I cant thank those drivers and crew from both cars who stepped up prior and during to completely bail me out from a disaster! It would have never happened without you! Also huge props to my sponsors who provided incredible equipment at their cost or less. Mike Haag owner of Haag Performance and Glenn Stasky owner of Clearwater Lights!  https://www.clearwaterlights.com/

This was not about me nor ever has been...it was an effort to give some great friends and drivers an opportunity to stand on the podium in what is hands down the coolest amateur racing event in the country! Well that dream for them came true! Not only did they win the most competitive class in the race but they were the top Mazda finishing car!!

Darin Polsley, Dan Cooper, Phillip Holifield and Jaime Florence drove a flawless race. They along with an incredible group of volunteers deserve most all the credit and congratulations! Very very proud of what they accomplished!

The ND cars had a wide range of driver experience and talent - many of them were running off the pace of fast SMs but I saw MacAleer ran a 2:00.xx in qualifying and I think also in the race. They really should be an E1 car like existing MX5 Cup cars are... once fully developed, they *might* be a little fast for the class. I turned the fastest lap of any car in E1 in a Spec E46 on Toyo RRs at 1:59.4.

Big congrats to Mark Drennan, Brian Ghidinelli, and Mason Fillipi for there E1 win in the BMW. Joey Jordon was in the other BMW team car I believe which finished 2nd in class as well!

The ND cars looked great! We knew they had a wide variety of drivers as one minute they passed us at will while the next they were always in the way!

So Ron, did any of my wet weather tire advice help at all?

Thanks Danny!

Again, a classic reminder of why the SM community is so great! Who better to reach out to than who many consider the best wet weather driver in the SE! I knew we were going to see weather at the event so i dropped Danny a note...not only did he respond quickly but he shared openly!

I was lucky enough to have an NBC Meteorologist on my team who had his radar app up and running full time on his lap top. The rain came about 13 hrs into the event sometime after midnight. Light at first, just enough to get the track wet. But we knew it was going to let up then get heavy! We had Hoosier wets(Dries as well...thanks Hoosier!), so I wanted to stay on dries as long as possible to avoid destroying them if the track dried up between showers. My driver wasn't to happy with me as our competition went to wets but sure enough the track dried enough that they had to go back to dries! What we lost in lap times we gained back when they all had to pit and go back to dries! Within minutes of our scheduled stop/driver change the rain came hard. Our best rain driver went out on H2O's 30 seconds after it started to dump. I set tire pressures exactly what Danny told me to for this condition. Darin ran circles around half the field...nothing like passing prototypes in the rain and dark!

Not only was Danny's advice spot on but we ran 1 set of Hoosier wets in varying degrees of rain from 2;30am until we got the checkered flag at 12:10pm!

Congrats Ron, glad the info helped. And really impressed that the H2O's lasted that long. I can only surmise that the track was still pretty wet.

33 1/3 Races in a Day and an Hour

http://mazdamotorspo...gId=-1&button=y

Mazda utilizes the 25 Hour race as the ultimate final test for 2016 Global MX-5 Cup car.
Mazda chose to debut four of the new 2016 Global MX-5 Cup cars in the always-brutal NASA 25 Hours of Thunderhill race, equal to 33 1/3 45-minute Battery Tender MX-5 Cup races, far in excess of a normal race season. After 25 hours, or almost 8,000 combined miles completed by the four cars, the result was a resounding success.

"While not as well-known as the Rolex 24 at Daytona, the NASA 25 Hours at Thunderhill is just as tough on equipment," said John Doonan, Mazda's motorsports director. "With over 70 orders for the new car, we wanted a way to further showcase the quality, durability, and reliability of the race car in true Mazda fashion. Our drivers were Mazda employees and dealers. Our pit crew was made up 100% by volunteers, mainly Mazda employees taking vacation time to do this. “Driving Matters” isn’t just a slogan; it’s a way of life for Mazda. Thanks to everyone at Robert Davis Racing, Long Road Racing, Mothers, BFGoodrich Tires, and everyone else who helped make this a success. Having Mazda class winners in both E2 and E3 made for an especially great weekend."

The MX-5 Cup cars were entered in the “E0” class – overclassed purposely so they wouldn’t compete with other Mazda teams – and competed against a variety of BMW and Nissan teams. Since the cars were built to a unique Mazda Global spec, and not optimized for the NASA regulations, the goal was not victory but real world testing miles and reliability in competition. The four cars racked up multiple seasons worth of data in 25 hours of action that included many hours in pouring rain. Of particular note was the wet-weather performance. Frequent driver comments after wet runs were “fun” and “that car is magic on the BFG rain tires”. During the heaviest rain, the MX-5 Cups were lapping at speeds much faster than the majority of the field, including the fastest classes.

THill all 4 carsThe price for the turnkey ready-to-race Mazda MX-5 Cup car is $53,000. Long Road Racing began production last month and will be busy during the off-season with more than 70 orders in-hand. Details for the ordering process, including financing options, are available at www.MazdaMotorsports.com. Additional information on the MX-5 Cup can be found at MX-5Cup.com. You can follow the progress of the 2016 Global MX-5 Cup car development on the new Twitter handle: @GlobalMX5Cup. The 2016 Global MX-5 Cup season begins during the IMSA weekend at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca on April 29 – May 1.

In additional news from Thunderhill, Mazda also claimed two class wins from the dozen grassroots Mazda teams competing in three of the seven classes.

• Team RDR, scored their second-straight “E2” class win in their fast and reliable No. 34 Mazda RX-8, followed across the line by the Team Gone Racing Mazda Miata in second. The winning drivers in No. 34 were Dennis Holloway, Joel Miller, Lee Pappageorge, and Jeremy Barnes.

• It was a Mazda Miata 1-3 finish in “E3”, with the gold going to the No. 40 RA Motorsports and the bronze to RJ Racing. The winning drivers in No. 40 were Darin Polsley, Phillip Holyfield, Jamie Florence, and Daniel Cooper.

• Also making a world race debut was the Elan Technologies NP01 prototype, powered by a Mazda MZR engine. The two NP01 teams were also viewing the race as a real-world test and were pleased with the results.

The race was streamed live for all 25 hours from inside the MX-5 Cup cars at www.MazdaLIVE.com allowing Mazda fans around the world to track the action.

The ND cup cars were good for most of the race.  We worked out a few minor things during the two practice days and they held up well during the 25 hours.  There were a few teething problems we discovered but you have to expect that with a brand new car and the occasional rabbit committing suicide by running out in front of the car I was the chief on.

The Pagid pads held up well for the entire race.  If it would have been a dry race we would have needed to change them out before the entire 25 hours.

I will say the new BFG slick for the class is really good.  The rains were in another league, it didn't matter what line you took, our drivers were passing anyone anywhere when the rain came down.

Just about had 3rd overall in the bag driving the Speedtrixx Porsche, sadly we got caught up in a freak crash going into Turn 1. Want to put out a massive thanks to the SM guys who helped us out, Flying Lizard Motorsports and Award Motorsports for loaning us parts and tools to finish the race.

Porsche GT3 Cup car drives exactly like an NA miata, just with more power, bigger tires, and a lot of buttons on the steering wheel.

Congrats to Ron Alan on E3, as well as the award for nicest bridge on pit lane LOL.
