I purchased a 2001 VVT spec Miata from another racer and the car was previously raced on the major tour races.

I am not going to post the previous owner nor the car builder as I do no like starting rumors or gossip.

My question is how do I find out if the ECU was modified or tweaked?

Are any modification allowed on the ECU?

I also do not see a fuel pressure regulator anywhere.

The car runs great and pulls strong I had another prominent SM driver drive the car and was quite impress with the vehicle.

I am currently competing in regional races and plan on competing major races next season.

Being a rookie, and 2015 being my first year of racing I don't anticipate getting on podium in 2016 major races, but in the event I do I want to insure the car is legit.

I did pass regional tech after getting my first win however it was in ITS not SM.

Any info would be appreciated.

BTW I flew down to watch the SM race on Friday night and it was epic. Was very motivating watching the race!, hopefully I can qualify in 2016!

Is the ECU located in the factory location?

Full disclosure: SMAC chairman, my opinions do not reflect anything to do with the SMAC unless specifically stated.

To answer your questions;

No modifications are allowed to the ECU. As the driver you are responsible for understanding the rule book.

Fuel regulators are an allowed modification. Not required.

Remember that passing tech at any race does not mean the entire car is legal. It means the items they decided to check are legal. The chosen items can be as simple as weight, SCCA stickers and that you are wearing Nomex socks. Do not think that passing tech is a proof of 100% legality.

Have Ademir at Savings or Nick at Flatout inspect he car. Both are stand up guys who will give you an honest opinion.

Our cars with Timing wheel and Exhaust become way more competitive, but still '99 pulls on the top end no matter what.  But what used to happen to me at say Thompson and NHMS is I'd have a slight run out of the corner, and literally would lose in a drag race down the straight with '99 cars, watching them pull away even if I could get close enough to draft.

Now after setting the timing ahead and a SD exhaust, I can get in the draft and stay right with them.  Not really make a run on them, but at least it makes the car competitive!  That being said at say Turn 6 at NHMS, getting out of the bowl, the TQ advantage helps immensely.
