Danny,

With the Mobius - do you have to rename the files like with the Go Pro so they all share the same file name? I was using a Traqmate with Mobius a few weeks ago and was unable to open the video like I was able to with my Go Pro files.

I don't bother to sync TraqMate data with video because the TraqMate data won't line up with itself since the system is flawed.

So I don't know the answer, other than we use AIM/SmartyCam to avoid this problem.

This concerns me since I  spent $1500 on a Traqmate/Mobius system before I knew there was a problem. I've read other posts that indicated Traqmate was working on the problem and expected it to be fixed before the end of 2015. Any updates?

I get significant benefit from seeing my video synced with my data (despite the issue of syncing one session of data with another session of data). With the video I can quickly assess if the segment I'm analyzing was affected by other cars or factors. I would still analyze data without the video but the video is very valuable.

That's why we use AIM - it overlays the important data over the video on the fly. No sync required.

I can see that would be very useful but there are so many different values to look at in the segment analysis grid, limiting myself to just those you configure in advance to overlay on the video is never enough. If you could start with that video/overlay and then drill down to the full set of values at anytime for more detail, that would be outstanding.

From the TraqMate user manual ...

"To add video onto your data, go to the Driver Setup screen and choose Video. You will be
prompted to choose the video that corresponds to the data that is open. The program will default
to the folder where the data was located, followed in priority by the folder selected in Options,
followed by the folder last used. If there is a video file matching the name of the data file, it will be
opened automatically.

When you close TraqStudio with a video file open, you will be asked if you would like the video file to be renamed to match the data file. This makes it much easier to find matching data and video in the future."

This has been working for me as described in the user manual.

Blake - if you place both files in the same folder, when you open the data file with video selected, you will be able to select the correct video file. However if you have named them the same,  it will automatically open the video file and sync the data with the video. Personally, I prefer to rename all my data and video files so that I can search for relevant info in the future.

Since I started racing in 2008, I have accumulated 8TB worth of data and video and by using a simple file naming protocol I can instantly search all my data and video for a particular session. This really helps if you arrive at track and it suddenly starts raining, or wet and drying, etc.. Being able to find a session that closely resembles the nuances that you are about to encounter is really valuable. It is also very helpful when studying how the car behaves on different rubber, say 1HC vs 5 HC. That awesome feeling you have in your hands and butt when you are on stickers, doesnt necessarily translate into faster laps, especially at the end of a race that is tough on tires.

Both the video and data files are named with the same name, just the extension is different.

My file naming protocol, for those that are interested is as follows: example :

20160111-Sebring-Majors-R1-99-H2HC-PB.mp4   is a video file, from Race 1 at the 2016 Sebring Majors, running my 99 on 2 Heat Cycle Hoosier and running my personal best for that track

  • Date
  • Track
  • Session (R=race P=practice, T=test, Q=qually)
  • Car (VVT or 99) |
  • Tires (H=Hooiser, T=Toyo}
  • Heat Cycles (0,1,2,3,4 etc)
  • Session Specific info (PB=personal best, LR= lap record, W=wet, WD= wet but drying, R=rain)

I've been told SM results are final - no changes. Just waiting for SCCA to put up the final results on the website.
