In the context of racing, when one hears the words “complete package,” he or she often thinks of a driver who performs both on and off the track; this is shortsighted. He or she should think the same about a race team – or specifically MEATHEAD Racing.

MEATHEAD Racing has made its mark in grassroots racing. And in 2016, it will do the same in professional racing.

The 2016 season will bring new challenges for MEATHEAD Racing, but ones we know it is primed for. It will compete in a series that many consider will provide the most competitive racing in sports cars – the Battery Tender Mazda MX-5 Cup. With an anticipated 40 racers planning to compete throughout season, MX-5 Cup is attracting the best racers around – and MEATHEAD Racing drivers Mike Collins and Nick Bruni are two such drivers. They are, in fact, no strangers to consistently winning races and scoring podium finishes for years behind the wheel of Miatas. These results, however, take more than just talented competitors with speed and race craft; it takes an entire program that knows the intricacies of the tracks – rain and dry lines, the competition, race strategy, car dynamics, and has an intimate knowledge of the racing machines, among more.

For more than a decade, MEATHEAD Racing has conquered amateur motorsports as one of the largest race teams in the country. Founded in 2002 and based at Summit Point Motorsports Park in West Virginia, MEATHEAD Racing travels to over 20 race tracks across the United States. At Summit Point, the team operates a 4,800 square feet facility, where it services and builds Mazda MX-5 cars of all generations. During the racing season, MEATHEAD Racing routinely supports 15 to 25 race cars, competing in five different competition classes, in events sanctioned by the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) and the National Auto Sport Association.

In 2015 MEATHEAD Racing drivers swept Spec Miata in the Mid-Atlantic Road Racing Series (MARRS), finishing 1-2-3 almost every weekend and in the final championship standings. Driver Nick Bruni finished the season as runner-up in Showroom Spec Miata and Mike Collins finished fifth in Spec Miata in the SCCA Eastern Conference. In sum, MEATHEAD Racing won 16 races and scored 46 podium finishes.

We expect MEATHEAD Racing will continue this level of excellence, even in MX-5 Cup.

Rounds 1 & 2 of the 2016 Battery Tender MX-5 Cup kick off at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca April 29 – May 1.
