With everything stripped out of our "Chump" Miata, I noticed two very large paths from the trunk area to the cockpit. I'm referring to the ones located directly forward of the rear damper mounting points ahead of the fuel fill on the left and battery on the right. I would like to fabricate some blocking plates to close them off for safety. With our car in the shop getting caged, I don't have access to it to make measurements. Does anyone have a pattern that they would be willing to share? I believe these plates are a required part of an SM build.

Thank you in advance,

-Chris

Not required but the openings do need to be closed... Make your own - Use cardboard to make template, go to HomeDepot or Lowes for sheet metal, cut with snips bolt or rivet in place. Boom. Done. Easy.

Yep, they are easy to make. If you are going to make some covers for the package tray as well it's a better deal to go to your local steel yard. A small piece of sheet, for example .032 AL in a 2' x 2' (more or less the equivalent of 22 ga) at a big box is going to cost about 25 bucks. A 4' x 10' sheet is $37 at my local yard. The difference is $6.25 sq/ft or $1.10 sq/ft. Mild steel sheet is cheaper than that.
