Thanks Brandon.

Kyle, using rule 9.1.7.C. as a guide line.

If the CCC tested some number of suspected hardened shift forks and some number of suspected hardened (stress relieved) springs which came out of a transmission rebuild house and all forks and springs from the transmission rebuild house tested above some quantity while all the known OEM springs and forks tested below some quantity what conclusion do you believe the CCC would come to?  Just as Mark said in the video when he was inspecting a transmission house transmission's roll pins which were safety wired, they wouldn't pass tech. Because one can't see/view hardness/stress relief, why does one believe hardness/stress relief  can not be tested.

Johnny, using the term durability when referencing the forks and springs is just like referring that the STR only improved the engine power of minimal significance. When a syncro spring is more durable (per video words, last 4 times longer) it very likely will not cause a syncro ring failure because of harsh shifts as harsh shifting OEM syncro spring would cause syncro ring failure. Hence the more durable syncro springs provide performance advantage.

This illegal/legal rule sliding crap is exactly how/why limited prep Production class cars came about for the SCCA during the mid 1990's. The fact of life for production cars pre mid 1990's was entries were continuously becoming less and less because of COST to compete.

Also Mark say "stress relieving" not Heat Treat (hardening). And Annealing (Softening) isn't Stress relieving either but similar.

So Bench, Mark's at the head of the class. The smart kids have asked him to make some after watching the video.

Did you want to be able to get some ?? (fair playing field) Such that it is. :rotfl:

Mark has a lot of time/R&D, he should be able to make a buck, right ?

Everyone's cool with this, legal or not?

You're not going to stop the rule slide.

How many people would do tech if they had to show that spring every time ??

A full durability kit would really be nice.

IMHJ, it's not legal to todays SCCA rules, therefore not retarded.

You can be all right and all wrong at the same time. If we were to add to the list everything that was illegal to do the list would be functionally useless. Especially considering; IIDSYCYC rule.

You guys know you can't just add it. You have to send a letter and SMAC review and on and on.

FWIW, I do not use the super springs. As people learn how to shift, the need has dropped. OEM springs are just fine in my opinion. But I have no issues with using a part that does the same job, has the same dimensions but is a different material.

The Rev-5th spacer was something I came up with a couple years ago. As these are now starting to come back for re-re-builds, I have seen no twisted shafts. This has been approved and I am working on getting a batch made by someone who specializes in race gears.

I would never argue with your transmission experiences or your views on many other racing subjects. If you give the above comment of "different material" some further thought can you imagine what light weight different material would create.  :scratchchin:

Remember the supposed million dollar plus DSR car that was the first SCCA Club racing car to lap Road America under 2 minutes.

Would be interesting to find out how most would feel after blowing their trans and entries. (effecting clubs $)

Wouldn't come back this season.
Wouldn't be back for the next race weekend or race weekends
Wouldn't miss a beat.

Not having these issues..  transmission failures are 99% driver related.  I have two drivers that twist counter shafts.. both wheel hop on down shifts..

In 10+ years of SM racing.. I lost one rebuilt transmission late in the season when third gear blew apart.

maybe you guys are using the wrong rebuilder :)

No doubt its driver related. As these cars do not drive themselves, It clearly is not the rebuilders fault on those type of failures.

I have tested many springs and while its just my opinion, i think there was a bad batch of those OEM springs at one point, but what do i know. have seen some abused transmission with the stock spring do fine while the rest of the box was in ruin.

It is not currently approved or legal in any way shape or form.

If it gets approved, which it likely will, it will not be approved until the 17 season.  The SMAC has recommended it, but the CRB still has to vote on it.  In the latest Fastrack it falls under the heading below.

Several people/shops are working on a properly machined part to be made available to all.  The current spacer being used is a turned down 5th gear which is not a long term solution once/if it becomes legal.

Thanks Sean.

So "the subject" will be basically all of Mark's videos on transmissions?

Are forks and springs being hardened currently legal or treated as such ??
