I'm surprised that it hasn't been announced yet where the 2018 Runoffs will be.  I do know that it should be a west coast venue.

If I had to guess, I'd say Laguna Seca or Sonoma (formerly Infineon and Sears Point before that).  Personally, I'd prefer Sonoma.  It's a fun track and in a beautiful part of California.

How about you guys?

I raced on both back in the day. Sears Point was 25 minutes from my house. I preferred Laguna but it's in the middle of no place. Both are outstanding tracks.

Sonoma would seem to be the logical choice. Certainly a bucket list track and can handle the crowd with extra parking lots up the hill. Down side is nothing close lodging wise. Which ever direction you find accommodations it will be 5-20 miles from the track and traffic generally sucks! Upside you are in the heart of Napa Valley and 25 miles from SF and the ocean...some great areas to visit and many things to do(if you have time)  :)

Many other insights but lets see what gets announced!

As Dean said, Thunderhill is a great track! Unfortunately it doesn't get the National exposure and not really known to many outside this area...except of course those crazy endurance racers!

I can say I can feel the pain of teh California guys. 2014 was a major undertaking for us and a very expensive one.  While I would like to do Sonoma if that in fact ends up being the track. it is doubtful we make taht trip again as it takes at least one prior trip to learn the track enough to be competitive. We will play by ear, but not likely I will make that trek again

Horrible excuse Jim. Plenty of people to rent a car from to get used to it, tons of testing from the track monthly and places to leave a car or two.

Humm, let me see....I drove 4200 miles to get some experience driving my Miata in the regional event prior to the runoffs and then turned around in about a month or so and did it all over again to participate in the runoffs.
I guess it's all where you are at in life and how long we have to actally participate.
Jim, when I was 46 I thought the same way as you but as I have gotten older (58) my feelings have changed.
