Hey all,

Im a newbie and had a couple questions I need to throw out there before I do something stupid or buy the wrong stuff...

1. Seat, Im a stocky guy about 5'10" and recommendations on a seat that I should look at that fits bigger guys well. The car currently has an old Momo that is to narrow.

2. Steering wheel quick release. Any recommendations on an affordable release and wheel?

3. Fire Extinguisher. What do I need exactly?

4. Anyone have an old data acquisition system for sale?

5. I live in the SF Bay area. Any recommendations on where to get the car tuned? It starts and idles for a minute, then chokes out as soon as you hit the gas.

Thanks... Im sure Ill have plenty more questions as well

For data acquisition the AIM solo is  pretty awesome for the money.

Yes

For steering wheel, there are many choices.  Longacre has a decent selection of inexpensive options (wheel and release hub).

For extinguisher, the SCCA GCR or NASA rules will spell out what's required.

Seat - go up to Wine Country Motorsports and try some on.  I wound up with the OMP HTE-R.  I'm 5'9" ~200lbs ~36 waist.  The OMP is a bit tighter than the Sparco Pro ADV which is also a nice seat but roomier than the OMP.  Cost was under $900.  I think Wine Country is having a sale - they were before Christmas anyway...

Quick Release - NRG quick release is awesome and not too spendy

Fire Extinguisher - IOPort in east bay has the right one with the legal metal bracket.  That is where I got mine.

Data - I'm not selling mine but a bunch of us are using the AIM Solo which is reasonable for a realtime, GPS laptimer with predictive timing, some data and easy setup.  It is also fairly idiot proof.

5 - not sure.  might want to start a separate thread for that with details and maybe some video of what it does.

Lemme know if you need a hand with anything or want to test fit my seat.

Cheers.

Data: I see Traqmate is still advertising in the banner at the top of this page, but they aren't making or selling new products.  I'm planning to get an AIM Solo before the season starts.

UltraShield makes a Spec Miata seat, up to 18" wide for under $400.  https://store.windin...-seat-p508.aspx

I'm similar size and have a Ultra-shield Road Race Halo that fits the car well.
