Hello

 

I´m running a specMiata like car in Swedish clubracing and we are to put in a standalone ECU and need too know if the coilpack on Nb -00 is active or  passive. i would also be gratefull to have som tip on which alternator with build in regulator that  fits on this car.

Hopefulle someone over there can give us some help.

I believe the coil packs are active. Alternator from a 1995 Miata is internally regulated and bolts right on.

Not that i wont  pretend to understand but what is active/passive?

Honestly since the Miata is a wasted spark design I think the coils are both active and passive. With active being the cylinder under compression and passive being the cylinder on exhaust stroke. Your Ecu should have a wasted spark choice for the ignition.

I believe the 99+ alternator charging is managed by the ECU, while on the earlier cars (90-97) the alternator does it.
