Spec Miata driver Michael Carter was presented the Southeast Division highest driver award at the 2016 SEDiv Awards banquet. Michael was presented the 2016 SEDiv Driver of the Year award for his outstanding performance in 2016. In only his second year of full time competition with SCCA, the 17 year old from Savannah, Ga finished 2nd in Spec Miata at the SCCA Runoffs at Mid Ohio. In addition to his outstanding performance at the Runoffs, he also managed to finish second in the North Series of the South Atlantic Road Racing Championship, SARRC. He bested 91 drivers to finish second in SARRC.
Michael was joined by his family at the SEDiv Awards banquet which was held at the Sea Palms Resort and Convention Center on St Simons Island, Georgia. In accepting his award, Michael thanked his mother and father for all their support and all the SCCA workers and officials who make it possible to race with SCCA.
MIchael joins fellow Spec Miata driver Danny Steyn as SEDiv driver of the Year. Danny won the honor in both 2011 and 2013. FP Miata driver Paul Kullman also won the award in 2010.
