I'm building a 96 miata and I have Dave W. drop floor and deluxe cage installed.  I'm installing a ultra shield spec miata seat and racequip 6 point harness.  I plan to mount the seat to the floor in the back and buy/make an angle bracket to support the front.  I'm also going to use the stock seat belt bolts and holes to mount the lap belts.

My question is how do I mount the sub belts?  I understand the 20 degrees back and 6" of spacing but there is no room to mount the belts with the seat on the floor.  I bought the eye bolt kit and clip mounts but with the seat mounted to the floor the eye bolts do not fit under the seat.  The eye bolts will only fit where the opening is for the two sub belts in the seat.  If I mount them here I will be sitting on the eye bolt and seat belt clip.

Can I bend the bolt style bracket that came with the sub belt 45 degrees and then just bolt that right to the floor?

Thanks

How about you put a spacer/flat washers between the floor metal and the bolt style bracket? Don't squeeze the belt anyplace (rub/wear) between any of the attaching metal.

I used these: http://www.ogracing....t-bolt-in-style

with a couple of washers below and one above.

With the plates with the welded nuts. http://www.ogracing....arness-mounting

I used stacked washers wrapped with racer tape to raise the seat up just enough to clear the bolt.

By the by, WTF are you doing building a 1.8?  Any other spec line would be a much better idea.

Thanks, these look like the ones that come with the belts just bent 45 degrees.  So it looks like I can just do that to the ones that I have, any reason I shouldn't?

01+ > 99 >> 1.6 >> NA8

Might be the other way around with the 01 and 99.  Hard to tell.

obrut the competitive difference between all years can be measured by .1s of a second. Build and enjoy the hell out of your NA 1.8. It's my opinion that it's the most robust dependable version Miata every built. Electronics and engine management is better than the 1.6 and much less problematic than 99-2005.

Peak lap times don't tell the whole story, I'd watch the video of Danny in a NA8 before building a NA8.
