Ok, I'm opening myself up here but I just want to go racing in two weeks. When I tore down my engine to have the head rebuilt, I absentmindedly forget where the Water Hose on the back of the head goes. Its on a 1.6 and it's the small one projecting to the right.I can't seem to find anything in the FSM on it, nor do I have the hose laying around in my garage. Help!

It's not the larger outlet that is on the left (driver side). It's the small one on the right (passenger side).

Yeah that one gets a cap and a clamp.

Be sure to get the actual cap from Mazda, don't use a vacuum cap, unless you have no choice.

I think for this first race it will be a vacuum cap. Do you know the part number and does Mazda Motorsports have them?

Or worst case which I've done in a pinch is a piece of fuel line/TB water line with a slider pin bolt and 2 hose clamps( redneck but worked fine) ;)

A vacuum cap will get you through the weekend, but order 2 on Monday.

Here's a pic of the cap w/ part number from my Miata engine rebuild blog post.

Might as well get a new OE hose clamp as well in case the old one is tired.  You don't want to fudging around back there with the engine in the car.  Unless you're like Trump and have tiny hands - and know how to use them.

That clamp is more hateful than my ex-wife when changing it in the car...
