Still 47mm and 2400# though for the 94-97. I was hoping for a touch less weight there.

All cars 1990-1997 are permitted to use the “R†model tie rod ends part # N021-32-280A. That's new. Was that a compromise to the NB front subframe etc.?
Still 47mm and 2400# though for the 94-97. I was hoping for a touch less weight there.
You need to read this carefully.
You have "Suggested Rules for next year".
"Not Approved by the CRB"
"Previously Addressed"
"No Action"
And then the "Tech Bulletin" where your hopes comes true.

Unless I read it wrong, the tie rod change was redlined directly into the Dec. GCR page 581. I clicked the link supplied above before I went into the Fastrack. I hope that's legit. I like the locating ring for the rear sway bar too, accepted unanimously.

He's talking about the weight. You got 35# to 2365.
Ohhhh...um...looking at the wrong issue. I like that rule change. We now return you to your normally scheduled programming.

(I hoping so, as a new one arrives today for my 91 )
SPEC MIATA
1. #3044 (CRB) clarify exhaust rules
Modify 9.1.8.C.1.m.4 as follows to clarify what muffler configurations are permitted:
a. The replacement system retains the original configuration (i.e., single tube design) and the tubing is a maximum of 2.25 inches outside diameter. The maximum length of tubing used for the system beyond the OEM down pipe shall not exceed 120 inches (includes catalytic converter replacement pipe if used).
b. The pipe may end anywhere after the rear subframe. Forward of the rear subframe, the pipe must follow the original path of the OEM exhaust system. The exhaust system shall not create any new openings in the rear bumper.
c. No expansion chambers. A single muffler may be added. The muffler shall not exceed a maximum length (parallel to the longitudinal centerline of the car) of 34 inches. The muffler shall not exceed a maximum width of 24 inches (parallel to the lateral centerline of the car). In addition, the sum of the length and width of the muffler shall not exceed 40 inches.

I'd like to see a pic of the exhaust that caused the width and length of the muffler rule though. Sounds like quite the piece of "grey area" exploitation.

On a slightly different topic of the latest FastTrack; it finally indicates that we can legally remove all the airbag components (not the actual wording). What all does this cover, and where is it all located in the NA (1991)? I know mine has sensor connectors (and I assume all the wiring that goes with them) on both sides of the engine bay, but where do they go and is there a module that they plug into that can be removed? Are there other system sensors/wiring that can be removed?
FastTrack also indicated that we can remove the horn (as if anyone still had one). I often thought about adding mine back in just so I could use it on the rare occasion.

I will keep trying for the rule change until they pry the NB subframe from my cold stiff fingers.
I know where you can get a NA subframe with NB numbers

I actually like having the washer bottle. It's usefull if you didn't put rain-x on the windows and go muddin. People have asked me why I'm putting rain-x on the windows on dry days. My response...T7. I don't always take the easiest way around the course but trying to remember which switch you rarely use on the race track does what is a challenge. You can wind up driving around with your blinkers on a lot.

The same vision of a pretty strange looking exhaust came to mind as I was reading the new rule wording.
Picture a "muffler" under the trunk floor that reaches from side to side and extends from near the rear suspension to the bumper. Sounds a little like an aero device, no?

I believe that was the case. A muffler had been designed so it also smoothed out the airflow underneath. Mentioned in one of the threads on specmiata.com. Try this link to that thread

Interesting to identify the R-model tie rod ends (9.1.8.4.n) - a not-publicized bone to the NA owners over the missing NB subframe allowance?
Has anyone else noticed a little "missing" detail from the transmission/final drive section (9.1.8.3)?
They seem to have left out the bit about 94-97 cars using the 4.3 ratio, no?
And there still isn't clarification regarding alternate body parts (beauty panel...) that we've discovered over the past couple months...9.1.8.7.b merely mentions repairs must attempt any "reasonable effort" to "maintain body contours" and only mention clearances as being the line you cannot cross. Nothing about alternative material components at all but they do specify only the Mazda factory hardtop (9.1.8.7.e). What about Snugtops?
