I had a great time this weekend at the mid Ohio Sprints. My best ever qualifying at 12th and actually ran in the top 10 for a short time. I cut it a little close on gas and started running out last lap. Live and learn. I'm thinking a diet to lose 6 lbs might be a better idea than just putting in less gas.

There was some great racing up on Saturday as the mayor brings a video projector and we watch everyone's video on the side of a trailer Saturday night.

Franktown was alive and well and I truly enjoy being around these guys.

Thanks to Adam Roberts for taking care of me at the track. Thanks to Kyle the "Caveman" Webb for a great setup. Best the car has ever handled. Congrats to Kyle for two second place finishes. One of those from a 15th place start.

And I want everyone to know, Kyle actually made his bed both mornings!!!!!!!! A first!!!!!!

I just dont like you all grouchy sweeety!

I really just need to race more then 3 times a year lol!  It might make me stay on the track when I have a huge lead!

Congrats to Brian Murdick, I tell him this all the time but he thinks I'm funning him...  He is the probably the best Mid ohio Specialist around, very tough to beat, and we had a hell of a race saturday side by side that last few laps for 3-4 corners at atime and neither of us touching and nobody was put into the grass!

Congrats to Tommy "start at the back to get to the front" Sager!  Nice sunday win, car was running well and some fortune turned your way!  great driving!

Congrats as well to Chris Ashcraft on a nice weekend, just keeps getting better!

Jeff Luckritz sorry I took your no bolts bumper off in the keyhole lol!  I had forgot that I owed you thanks for reminding me, dont feel as bad now...  Jeff had a very solid weekend and was a factor in every race!

Look forward to August who knows I may even be able to race for a 4th time this year whoo hoo!

Frank town, mayors court was in session. What I find enjoyable aside from the racing and after track activities, is the guys that hang with our group, and with some encueagement have been making steady and continuous improvement toward the front. That list includes, Gary Ellis, Stewart Lovedall, Brad Kitchen, Rand Fusi, and others. I wish more people would know they are welcome, it helps to get to know who you are racing with, and our video replays are great teaching tools, cause if you make a boo, boo, we all get to comment and laugh a bit.

Congratulations to Tom Sager on an impressive win on Sunday.

I'm not sure if he "finally got his car sorted", or he finally learned how not to park his car in the kitty litter in T11.   :duck:  :duck:  :duck:

Your memory is slipping but I still love you.  It was the turn 10b kitty litter and it was slicker than a bucket of snot.  Kyle Webb though spun there in the dry this weekend.  That is not easy to do. :)

Never got the car handling real well this past weekend.  Sunday morning it was decent but Sunday afternoon after a few laps it was pushing awful in a few places and twitchy into turn 1.  I got bailed out by the stump-puller VVT.

Been a tough year so far with cars going down and some tough problems to correct.  The SM community has been a lot of help with Dave Wheeler conquering the '01 electrical problem, Jim Drago supplying some parts and Ralph Provitz and Mark Bennett being available after hours to listen to me whine and more importantly coach me through a couple issues.

Gotta Thank Kyle Webb for giving me a couple bumps down the back straight on last lap.  I suspect Frank who was side by side with me will be asking him what the heck he was thinking.

Good to see the great bunch of guys that are usually at the Ohio Valley region events and some family from Michigan and New York and to paddock with Jeff Luckritz.  Also nice to run the same 4 tires for most of the weekend.

Tom as alway, good fun clean racing with you. I did stop and talk to Kyle after the race and asked him why he chose to push you during my last lap pass for the win, I figured he drank my beer, ate our food, in frank town would get me a push, but no dice.

Also Agree that Jeff Luckritz, has really picked up his game, he was a factor all race.

In a few weeks the next regional is the IT spectacular if you want to come and have some intense racing by day and good comerader by night, sign up. Frank town will be in session.

Is Luckritz actually prepping the car these days?  Back when I was fast (LOL), I swear he would show up with one set of tires (the ones on the car), a super lame "Father's Day Gift" 18 piece toolset, and then he would only run one of the two days or skip qualifying and start from the back because he was teaching or feeding the hungry or chaperoning middle school prom, etc.

Actually, I thought he only ran Gingerman?   Glad to hear he was racy at Mid Ohio!  Great guy, and a longtime asset to the class and sport!

Also, congrats to Tom Sager for the win ... must have been the blueprinted binmatched stroked/bored caliper brackets!!!

Had a ton of fun this weekend at the sprints. My little 1.6 is so much fun to drive but i keep smoking the left rear trying to keep up with you front guys. Happy that my lap times keep coming down, so wish i could build a 99 or 01, but for now i will just keep working on my lines and setups. On Sunday race we staked up and i hit John in front of me pretty hard. Still sore after a trip to the chiropractor yesterday to make sure i was ok. The front left horn is pretty s shaped so i see some fabing in my fuutre.

Thanks for the compliment Kyle, been a long road but it makes it so worth it.

Here is the video of us staking up

I am new to Spec Miata coming from Formula Vee.  MY first couple events have been one problem after another but finally I have the car sorted out and it seems to be quick and reliable now.  My two buddies Michael Lattanzio and Chris Ashcraft have been very helpful in getting me going .

Every session of the weekend was great, I just kept learning more and more, running with the fast guys has helped tremendously.

The final race of the weekend I was able to take advantage of the issues the inside line of cars had and jump from 6th to 3rd by turn one, I hung on there for a few laps and made the most of it but about half way through the race I got too out of shape in turn 12 and had to put it in the grass to keep from spinning.  It was fun to run wheel to wheel with some excellent drivers.  It has been a steep learning curve, we were joking this weekend the only similarity between this and Formula Vee is that it has four wheels.

Welcome to sm... your spin in t13 was certainly interesting I would venture to say had you been in V and they were that close they would have hit you, but me and murdick both were able to lift a little still make the turn not hit you or each other!  welcome to SM!!!  learning curve will never end in this class the moment you think you have it handled you will find there is more to know! I thought you raced pretty well and your very clean which we all appreciate!

Tom, a little tense the last two laps.

Spencer was quick all weekend and has been all year.

Last lap had 2 lapped cars that were problematic especially the one in turn 1 but there really wasn't anything different that driver could have done.  Just not the best timing.  Overall not a great drive for me and the car pushed liked a dump truck in spots Sunday afternoon especially 11 the right hander into thunder valley.  Had a hard time keeping the car on the road there once cresting the hill.  Others behind me were quicker in some sections.  I think I found the bottom of ride height on the LF, but had a hard time getting more cross in the car on scales at reasonable ride heights on a couple corners.

Kyle-I got hit hard in the rear on the start when Murdick missed a shift. I hit him, and I got nailed from behind. I think you just put my bumper cover and support beam out of its misery. There was still metal between the washer and the bumper support.

It was nice to run up front with the Mid Ohio regulars. Ralph P helped me with the setup and Kevin Fandozzi has helped me with my driving at Mid Ohio.
