Chatted for a few mins yesterday with Ferranti, he told me Ross was batteling the flood much worse then him, Blake's home might be underwater, thank God he isn't there to have to endure it.  The weeks and even months to come will be very tough on some of our racing friends, and just alot of people we dont know personally, My heart goes out to all of them, and especially the ones we all call friends via this racing!  I am personally praying for all that live in the path of this hurricane!  I sure hope others here are not to wrapped up in the daily grind to appreciate how severe this situation really is...

+1, very sad.

I assumed this was just another over blown prediction and when they downgraded it so quickly from 4 to 1.. I figured here we go again. The rain has been relentless. Watching it 3 inches from getting into Ross's house had to be stressful. Several years ago we had a 100 year storm here and the water started to get in my garage which is 2 ft lower than house and I was freaking out, can't imagine being in the middle of that.

So the water went down to 24 inches below my house and we were starting to feel relief. It has rained 7 inches in the last 6 hours. It's back to within 8 inches and rising. A true flash flood would be worse but this agaonizing relentless rain is making me grumpy. Poor Blake doesn't even know what his situation is as he was out of town.

Someone somewhere else posted something like this, "news is overplaying the severity of the flooding, they are just showing the low spots that are real bad". That could not be further from the truth, the entire metro area has massive flooding. Nowhere to run to even if you could get out because where you go may be the next area hit by very heavy rain and flooding. Brazos river southwest of town will crest tomorrow afternoon 8 feet above its highest ever recorded flood stage. No amount of preparing by anyone can it could have prevented any of this. Some dipshits media outlets are saying Houston was unprepared for this and that our storm system is inadqutely designed. It's mother fudging nature idiots, we will always be under designed.

About to make a move to another location while I can, hope I'm making the right move.

Thanks for the well wishes it truly helps keep the spirits up.

Wow, this is so brutal. A 500 year event, and probably will be the largest natural catastrophe in the history of our country. I have thought and prayed for you boys down there weathering it out a lot the past couple days. I heard the high water marks are anticipated on Wednesday, which is discouraging.

All of you guys hang in there, and be safe.

In an effort to sell, demonize, blame, sway, manipulate...and any other lists of motivations..."NEWS" has sadly become very incomplete and unreliable!

Mother Nature has never lost...we do our best to get out of the way, stay safe and rebuild.

Those stories we are hearing of looting and gouging...lets just hope Karma and the National guard only have mercy for those true victims!

Godspeed to all those affected...relief efforts will poor in when they can!

I've been in Houston since last Wednesday as I have an office here. I've been through 8 previous hurricanes in SC and the Virgin Islands but nothing matches the scope of Harvey. All of the bayous and rivers have blown past the 500 year marks and many are still rising. What is shown on TV is but a small sampling of the real tragedy here.

I hope the National media is showing the positive and incredible rescue work done by private citizens in private boats. It seems that a large portion of the rescues are done by volunteers working with official first responders. A truly united response in this city.

A NASA handout released on August 29, 2017 shows Tropical Storm Harvey swirling off the US Gulf Coast, poised to make a second landfall, with more devastating wind and rain d time late August 29, 2017 or early August 30, 2017 over Louisiana, the state directly to the east of Texas. (AFP Photo/Handout)

Miami (AFP) - Hurricane Harvey has set what forecasters believe is a new rainfall record for the continental United States, officials said Tuesday.

Harvey, swirling for the past few days off Texas and Louisiana -- at times as a hurricane and at times a tropical storm -- has dumped more than 49 inches (124.5 centimeters) of rain on the region.

"The record for total rainfall from a tropical system has been BROKEN!" the National Weather Service Houston announced on Twitter.

According to the latest report from the National Hurricane Center, the data comes from a rain gauge southeast of Houston.

"Mary's Creek at Winding Road recorded 49.32 inches (125.27 centimeters) as of 9 am CDT," (1400 GMT), the NHC said.

"This total is higher than the previous record of 48 inches (121.9 centimeters) set during tropical cyclone Amelia of 1978 at Medina, Texas."

NHC spokesman Dennis Feltgen said the record is being treated preliminarily as one for the entire continental United States.

He added that confirming it "will take a lot of research," as experts review water gauges and past historical records -- a process likely to take several weeks.

Harvey made landfall in Texas on Friday as a Category Four hurricane. It has since weakened to a tropical storm but is still unleashing massive amounts of rain over Texas and Louisiana.

Mary's Creek at Windingway is about 3 miles from Mike's house and my house. We live across a Creek from each other. He and I spent 3 sleepless nights watching the Creek rise. Zsaturday night we got nearly 20" of rain in a 4 hour period.

As Mike said earlier, we were hoping that we had survived without major flood damage on Sunday afternoon when the Creek dropped about 2'. Then it started to rain again and the Creek began to rise. About 10:30 last night the Creek exceed the high level established Sunday morning and kept rising. About 2:00 AM this morning the rain slowed to a light sprinkle. At that point the waters were climbing my foundation and were within 2 inches of the bottom of our doors. Then the water began to receed and has dropped about 15".

Karen and we're extremely blessed to have no water in our house. The storm has moved further east and we "missed a bullet) unless Harvey decides to turn around and come back for another shot at us.

Mike wasn't as lucky he got about 5" of water in his house.

We are in a relatively small water shed, no levees or rivers upstream. Our creek is tidally influenced so the high tide and baby storm surge got my house last night. We have small problems compared to many others. Many in our community had catastrophic flooding, the police just found the man who performed my daughters driving exam deceased in his home. The true magnitude of this flood won't me known for months.

Nearly 52 inches of rain have been recorded in Cedar Bayou, Texas, the National Weather Service reported on Tuesday – a figure that broke the continental U.S. record.

Rains in the region, near Mont Belvieu, Texas, reached 51.88 inches as of 3:30 p.m. CDT. That's a record for both Texas and the continental United States but it doesn't surpass the 52 inches from tropical cyclone Hiki in Kauai, Hawaii, in 1950 (before Hawaii became a state).

Give it a minute- it's still raining there. Us Texans don't like doing things half assed.

Echoing the words of others who are here. Words fail to describe the scale, and the impact - both in dollars and lives affected- won't be known for many more months.

Truly humbling to see so many local folks out helping others as well. Texas is a unique place in that fashion.

Yeah, there are guys (not me) that raced at Barber last weekend that still can't get home. Hopefully tomorrow! At least their cars were high and dry somewhere on the road at the time.

It is sad to see all of the pictures online of just how terrible the flooding is and I seriously hope everyone in our SM community, their families, and their homes are doing okay.  Living at the beach, I know I started freaking out a little bit when I saw Hurricane Matthew last year flooding Jax Beach. Luckily my street was okay. But, I cant imagine going through what is going on in Houston and other parts of Texas. Hate to see that. But if there is one thing we know about Texans, they will get through this and come out of it stronger. Stay safe guys!

Thanks to everyone who reached out.  We had a close call Sunday night but managed to stay dry.  The city is truly devastated but people are coming together from all over and helping each other.

Thankfully, as a racer with a 4x4 F-350, we were able to get out Tuesday and go help some areas/folks who needed it.  My wife is at the church today volunteering while I am playing a little work catch up.  I will head back out to help later today.

Great to hear you got through this OK.  My brother in law owns 2 homes just north of Houston.  One they live in and one is vacant for sale.  Luckily both stayed dry but so many not far from them weren't as lucky.  We plan to make a donation of sorts.  If you have any donation suggestions, I'd love to hear them.  There are the obvious ones like Red Cross but sometimes something more local and targeted is more effective.
