I just put new pads (Carbotech XP10 front, XP8 rear) and rotors on my car, and the first time out on track will be this weekend, at the Fun One at Watkins Glen.  Due to the packed schedule, there are no practice sessions unless you come a day early, which I cannot do.  So, 8AM on Saturday is qualifying, and I will not have had a chance to bed the pads and rotors beforehand.

Aside from being more cautious than usual at he beginning of the session, is there anything I should do to bed the brakes during qualifying?  I'm not fighting for a place at the front of the pack, I just want to make sure my brakes will be in good shape for next season.

Yep.  That's why I'm asking about alternatives.  I don't think braking to a near stop on track during qualifying is going to win me many friends!

Not sure it works with Carbo Techs, but PFCs you can put on and race as soon as you get on the track...  No bedding no problems...

With Hawks it's the second or third lap I need to be cautious on when the pad fade sets in. To be honest I usually forget I put new brakes on by then and it's a complete surprise to me. I usually just drive through it and keep going. I suppose longevity might be improved by taking a cooldown and parking it at that point. I don't see any reason to over slow or do anything else erratic on track though.

Jeff Labounty says, "If they work for the first corner ... then you are good to go." I'm like Brian...I forget half the time. Seems to work okay

I brake early and only medium pressure. Thus giving a longer brake heat zone for the glue to burn away. Usually takes about 10 corners. The brakes should smell, then after they stop smelling you should be good. Then I brake normal, but early, gives me some OH $h1T room just in case they still fade a little. Then I forget about the brakes and off I go.

An old racer once told me "You will never go fast if you do not trust your brakes"

Best advice you will get: Switch to Cobalt Friction and stop worrying about all that BS.

Second best advice you will get: Don't rely too heavily on their F/R compound advice.
