Years ago I bought a beat up 94-95 Spec Miata and set out to convert it to an ITA car. At the time ITA was a pretty populated class but not as large as Spec Miata. I wanted to race in a smaller field until I felt more comfortable with wheel to wheel. Now ITA is sparse in the SEDIV and I'm thinking about converting the car back to Spec Miata specs. The big question; can the NA 1.8L car be competitive in a field of mostly 99-00 model cars? I still have most of the original parts so the conversion would be of minimal expense. Shocks, exhaust manifold and ECU being the biggest expense.

At least as a SPEC Miata, I could run either SM or ITA.

What do you think? Is the juice worth the squeeze?

There is always someone to race with in SM. In SM trim you can run ITA or your region might have SMT, in which case you can double enter and get more track time no matter what.
