You guys rock!  I looked at Google images several times over and still could not figure it out, those pix helped considerably.  So far that is the easiest thing I have done on my car this week!

I am replacing brake pads and cannot for the life of me figure out how the "M" or "W" spring goes on the rear pads.  The fronts were easy as there were the holes on the backing plate for the "V" springs, but the rears have no holes for the spring to fit into.

There will be a top and bottom spring, is the top spring inserted in the M configuration or a W?  Do stock pads have the hole I am looking for?

These are hawk DTC30 pads.  I have looked on the net as well and was able to find no definitive answer, can any lend an assist or provide a picture.

thanks,

Bruce

The tops of the M lie over point away from the caliper.

Any harm running without them in place?

They may be part of an anti rattle thing, they also open (for whatever open means, I'll take everything I can get to not have friction) the pads from the rotor. :scratchchin:

One of the many very small factors to reduce rolling resistance. Sliders, springs, manicuring tabs on pads, massaging with Sake, etc.

I have an opinion so I must be right

Interesting...and these springs are NOT part of the caliper seal/clip set that MSP sells (at least for a 94-97).

Come to think about it I don't recall ever seeing holes in the tops of the pads for these springs either.

The front have the holes for a different kind of spring.  On the rears, the end of the spring goes into a little slot on the ends of the pads that you can see in the picture.  That's when they're not shooting out and landing somewhere under the car that is.

I've never found them in the Maz site myself although I'm sure they sell the hardware kits.  I sometimes find them on sale at Rock Auto for a couple bucks and buy half a dozen.

I called them a few years ago and got this number BCYF-26-49ZA-MV (M-Springs w/pad clips).  This is for a 99, I don't know if 94 - 97 is any different.
