Pedal Box

Posted by Adax , 07-29-2013 · 2,740 views

I wanted some heat insulation for my feet and couldn't really find an off-the-shelf solution that met my standards. I'd seen some aluminum sheet work by my friend and fellow racer Trevor at Robinson Racing so I let him cut and bend an aluminum pedal box for me. I've bought a lot of fab equipment for this build but a sheet metal brake was not in the budget.

First I needed some insulation. There are now many products out there. I rolled the dice and went with this one. It was sold on a well-know racing site but the box implications are a little disappointing. Trying to appeal to a broader market perhaps.

It's difficult to cut the fiberglass but eventually I wound up with this. (pay no attention to the pedal positions, they are just swinging freely)

Trevor's work was a good rough-in but I needed to make it my own with some customization. Nothing looks racier than dimple-die'd pannels.

Those images represent about 2.5 hrs of work with a hole-saw and press but I love the final look. Trevor made me an aluminum dead-pedal cover as well which I riveted onto the stock one.

And here's the final result.
