A good purpose built rain tire makes the WORLD of difference.
At Barber this weekend, Spence was on the new Hoosier H20's and lets just say he looked like GOD in the rain. In the Pro-IT he was 6-8 seconds a lap faster than anyone on unshaved Toyo RA-1's (and this is on a short race track with a 2 minute lap in the rain).
The problem with really great rain tires is that they are really sticky and pliable, and if the track dries out even for a few laps, then the rain tire is essentially done. Toyo RA-1 rains dont succumb to this nearly as much as a purpose built rain tire.
