My understanding is that the folks from the Southwest Division of SCCA are working on something.

I flagged there this past Sunday for media day. The request went up Sunday AM to track management to allow the corner marshalls to take 1 controlled lap around the circuit in their POVs behind a pace car at the conclusion of the day's activities.

Denied immediately.

It's only a 20 hour tow for me. I won't hesitate when we get a chance.

Beautiful facility. Track is a little tight in spots for my taste. Where are the fast 4th gear holy sheet corners?

The video is deceptive and does not reflect seeing the track in person. This is a track with some fast corners and high speeds and lots of 4th gear corners I suspect. To your question:

T2 is a steep downhill right sweeper with which will definitely be a clencher as we need to get to the right of the track to turn left. 4th gear for sure.
The sweepers T3,T4,T5,T6 are all very fast changes of direction at speed - requiring considerable rhythm - or slow down. Pretty sure these will be 4th gear for fast drivers except for entry to T3.
T10 is a fast left blind corner with off camber. It scares me walking it, never mind the thought of doing it with a bunch of you manics. 3rd to 4th gear probably in middle of corner.
Not sure about T17/T18, but expect 4th gear.
T19 is a very fast left sweep. 4th gear for sure.

There are at least 3 great passing points, arguably 5. Very technical track as many of the corners are changing radius or in some locations, a double apex. T12 through T16 is going to be easy to give up time. T1 is wild, not just because of the steep elevation, but because of how the track changes sectional shape through the corner (thus changing vertical load). Lots of movement in elevation from main straight, T1 through to T12.

It will take a while to figure out best setup for the track as there is so much variety. The good news is that the runoff areas are designed for really fast cars and so in general in SM we would have to really work at it to hit a wall (which are all covered in Safe Barriers). Though I'm sure some of us will manage it.

Presumably we will get to race there early next year. Keep your calendars open. My guess is that this could be the one SM race that out does Sebring in car count.

the runoffs better get moved here, and soon.
central location in the country; only thing stopping it would be the hubris of the SCCA having the track pay the SCCA to hold the event, .

I just received my turn assignment for the F-1 race. I, and 4 other Lake Erie Communications workers from Cincinnati, will be flagging at T-19. It does look fast, but with ample runoff.

It's amazing how close the F1 2012 game is to the actual track. I already knew how to drive it in that video just from playing the game haha. I'll be there in the mustang for sure!!
