Garages? We doan' need no stinkin' garages! This is Summit Point...

 

Not entirely true - if you use some imagination there are a few shade trees in the back of the paddock that work well and the upgraded version comes with an engine hoist limb and a Men's room around back.

 

The country club tracks are nice, but Summit Point is a family track that focuses on the basics of racing and keeps the costs in line with the SSM theme you're seeking.  Read the Supps to note their late arrival process for you and your crew, especially if the old guy isn't at the front gate (why cann't I ever remember his name?  He always remembers my crew chief, Darby the dog, and we have a running joke about putting an arm band on him).

 

Have a safe drive down and look forward to seeing you there.

Was asking for the garage, because it's going to rain.  It rains or snows wherever I go this year heheh.

I got to meet Mike Collins today at NJMP, so I'll know few faces once I get there.

I'm back from Summit Point.  What a good weekend I had there.  The track is fun, people are nice, and the place is really family friendly.  Besides Mike Collins, I met David, Chris, Jeff, J.J., and few other people there.   In one of the last races I started last and got to the mid pack.  For me that was big, so I had a blast. 

 

Anybody that did not race at Summit Point, just pack and go.   The event is cheaper than running here in New England/NJ.   They have something special going on in SSM.  I'll run the whole MARRS if schedule allows.

For me, 1.5 hours to NHMS, 3 hours to LRP, 45minutes to Thompson

Summit is 9 hours, how is that cheaper? :noidea:

heheh... it will not rain during the next event, as I can't make it due to being wrecked at Lime Rock.

The engine is my main area of interest.  Are there pro build motors in SSM?  I see pro build SSM engines for sale.
 
  And if so, how is SSM engine different than SM engine? 
 

Can someone give me an objective answer on this.

I have personally seen uncorked SSM motors at the ARRC pull some of the best SM cars in the country, so my answer to question two would be "not much" . While the rules in SSM may be tighter, racing is racing and there will always be people who build right to the rule.

the "issue" is SSM is a regional class, and each region had its own rules.

 

Up by me in NE, there were no real rules other than no intake on 1.6L cars, Mazda Comp exhaust, mazda plug wires, and no 99 shock hats.  Some guys had some motors.

 

In WDCR they have a very strong program, and people had their motors dynoed and sealed at 95 hp.  Even there a few guys built motors in order to maximize torque and stuff.

 

I started out running SSM because:

 

1.  As a beginner, a slightly smaller field gave me more room to learn how to do this whole thing.

2.  I didn't want to spent money on shock hats and such.

 

Unfortunately, the SSM program up in the NE saw rapidly thinning fields.  I started double dipping in SM once I had some more experience.  When my motor finally blew up, I had a fresh crate motor put in.  Dyno at Matt Kessler....97 hp.

 

Then when double dipping the SM guys would pull me big down the straights despite the fact I was closing on them in the corners (not under braking, at mid corner and exit).  Finally I decided to give up SSM and go over to SM.  Change the exhaust, get an intake, put a head on the motor.....I don't have a total build but at least now I'm relatively competitive.

 

The way WDCR runs their SSM program is great.  they have a lot of great drivers for sure.

it is 96 HP and 93 ft. lbs of TQ. computer sealed, Afm sealed, engine sealed. Timing recorded and must be within 1 degree if checked at track. There is also limints on camber 2.5 up front and 3.0 rear. Timing must be set at 8.5 degrees to 16 degrees. I have seen some motors get sealed and from what I can tell a motor that has to be detuned and sealed at 9 degrees of timing doesn't seem as strong on the track.
