Race Technologies DL-1 and Dash 2....anyone make it really work?

I did finally get the lap timing to work (though only at lime rock), but I can't get predictive working, and I couldn't get the timing to work at WGI.
Is there anyone out there who has made this thing really work well? Anyone? I'll post some of what I do with the setup this winter, but it would be nice to know that some pioneer out there has had success.

The data records properly and I can get my "theoretical" best times, my problem is really in having the DL-1 interact properly with the Dash-2 for lap timing.
So far I'm amazed that my .LAP file works for Limerock, but not WGI. Have to love english electronics....

Mike Donick in Phoenix has the same system and is well versed in it. I will contact him and ask him to get on this thread and get you some helpYeah, but I like a challenge.....or repeatedly hitting my head against the same wall.

I and another SM racer in AZ use the DL1 system with the display and are very happy with it.
I use it for the predictive lap timing and also log wideband O2, intake air temp, water temp, oil pressure, fuel level, Air flow, and brake apply timing.
Regarding your issue with the predictive lap timing, it sounds like it might be an issue with your CF card and lap file.
Try formating the CF card, and then putting on your .lap file for the track you are running. Make sure that your .lap file has track markers on it for multiple segments, as that is required for predictive lap timing to work.
Good Luck, and let me know if it works for you.

Thanks for letting me know that someone got it to work! i will try reformatting my card and also putting different sectors in to my .lap files.

1. Make sure that your .LAP files are in all upper case and have less than eight characters in the name (e.g., WGI.LAP, LRP.LAP). Supposedly this bug was fixed. I'm erroring on the conservative side.
2. Some firmware versions of the Dash2 have the default location of each of the predictive lap time attributes (lap time, lap delta, sector time, sector delta, etc) in the same location on the dash. This results in either nothing or only one attribute actually being displayed. Make sure you set this up (on the dash itself) properly with each of the three attributes in a unique location and only three being displayed.
3. Make sure you've setup both track markers and defined sectors in the analysis software before you create your .LAP files. Not defining sectors will cause it to not work.
4. Setup the points where you want to see the sectors a little before you you think they should be. It seems to have a slight lag.
5. Only put the one .LAP file for you the track you're at now on the card. I know they say it will use the right one. Most of the time it will. But why tempt fate?
6. Make sure you have a GPS lock before you start logging. If you start logging before you have a GPS lock, it will sometimes not select the right .LAP file. Put the DAQ/Dash on a separate circuit that doesn't lose power when you start the car (direct to kill switch) that way you will have plenty of time to get a good lock.
7. Make sure you've configured the dash to display the timing numbers for long enough to see them. I like 10 seconds.
Good luck!

I have a bit of experience with these systems, run one in my car(s) and have gone through some of the same issues.
I'll reiterate the file naming. ALL CAPS for the name plus the 'LAP'. I like to make each track name with exactly 8 letters, just to make sure. I keep the # of LAP files to a minimum on the card, but you can keep a few without issues.
As far as setting up the lap file for predictive, I like to just run on the first session at that track and let it record, setting the S/F line on the out lap. Once I get back in the pits, I'll go in and set where I want the markers to go then save the file with appropriate name. I've never had an issue doing it this way. I think that since you have track data already, you'll be able to build working LAP files.
Then just make sure you have the Dash2 setup and config file properly saved, and you'll get your predictive timing displayed.
PM/email me if you need any additional assistance on this.
