I like Johnny's idea and I should give it a try just to see what the response might be; put up a sign at the local school soliciting new race car drivers. Granted the requirements might whittle that down to none able to participate. But I bet the response might be high and if at the right school, it just might yield a new driver. It would be fun to see either way what the reaction would be.

Remember you're selling the idea to both parents and child.
Racing is dangerous. :shame:

Car control is something that should be learn and improved upon.

And then, "well the safest car out there are the race car with full rollbars, etc." :)

It ain't like stick and ball sports where pa and ma just have to buy a new racquet, or a set of clubs, or a new baseball glove. We're talking second and third mortgages, six-figures per year to move a child up the ladder to a professional ride in motorsports, and that's if, IF, he or she has a one-in-a-million talent (and wins, like every race)

And most, almost all, kids who do make it to the bigs, come up through quarter midgets and go karts.

None of this has anything to do with attracting a demographic that can sustain club racing.

Ahhhh, wrong. And it is wrong with the same evidence you provide to make your case. If you second and third mortgage your property to fund your kids career, exactly what type of parents from an economics perspective have to mortgage in order to make it? The ultra wealthy don't do that. I paid 17K dollars to gleen this truth. Racing is a business. Anybody, ANYBODY, can make a career out of racing if they can figure out the business aspect of racing. No one, ALMOST NO ONE, can afford the top levels of the sport without understanding and using the business side. Guys like Kenton Koch, Elliott Skeer, MAY be considered wealthy ( I don't know a whole lot about their finances ). But I do know that neither of them can pay out of their own pocket the rides they are currently in. They have figured out the finances and have combined it with talent. Both came out of karting and club racing and both are well on their way to a career. Club racing is essential to being effective in pro racing. Club racing and ultra wealth are both optional if you can figure out a business angle that affords you the luxury of driving. Talent is not the be all and end all of determining if you drive. The majority of pro drivers are not the fastest drivers. What are the odds that with racing being what it is that it has attracted the absolute best driving talent and they have been able to work this incredibly complex system to obtain a seat in F1 or Le Mans? No way. The lucky ones and the ones with proper mentoring are the ones that have made it.

Would be nice if we had a little section explaining, your company, sponsor, finances. Rogers plumbing has a truck, trailer, SM and budget.

I guess you posted that piece on how to find a sponsor a while back or NASA did.

I didn' t go into detail, but, yeah, today's pro driver has to be the whole package. They have to be able to win and be likeable enough to shill whatever product is plastered to the side of their car. And it cost a fortune to get to the stage where they get noticed by a sponsor.

Sponsorships in club racing is just vanity. Who is your market? A couple hundred family members lining the fence?

Thousands of kids play highschool and college football for every one that gets drafted by the NFL. The odds are much slimmer in motorsports.

I still don't see what any of this has to do with attracting people to our HOBBY.

If anyone has a good idea on how to increase interest in racing in the U.S., then F1, IndyCar, NASCAR and IMSA would like to hear it 'cause they're having trouble putting butts in seats

I still disagree. Race on sunday sell on monday is total bs. Dont take my word for it. Talk to dean case at Mazda his opinion of that. It is not about shilling product. It is about understanding their business. Sponsors dont come look for you, you look for sponsors. Sponsors dont care about their name on the side of the car unless there are tv rights involved. They care about revenue. Figure out their revenue stream and figure a way for you to insert yourself into it and you race. This is valid at all levels of racing. For instance, you want to be sponsored by east
st. Figure out how Jim makes money. I shooting from the hip here but if he is in the wrecking yard business and you know someone at a rental car company and you can negotiate on east streets behalf an agreement for jim to get all their wrecked cars and you have a good chance of jim putting you in a car. And what it has to do with club racing is I just described a way for a guy to afford to go club racing. There you go. You now have what 17k bought me in a nutshell.
