Frank you could not have found a better way to end the season. Great job. Now get that 99 ready for Tommy to use next year.

Nice to put some faces with names and reconnect with others. Thanks to Frank for making us feel welcomed. Hopefully next trip we'll have more free time to enjoy the Saturday gathering.
I'm not certain how the many-car incident started on the back straight but my video shows some side-to-side contact in front of me, then 2 cars veered left and at least one came back across track to hit the car in front of me. Unfortunately I did not make it past without contact and had to be towed in.

Hope your car wasn't as bad as Kyle's or the guy that was pitted next to me. I tried to see if my video had anything on it but it happened to far behind me to see on my video.

I didnt catch anything in the mirror, however the girlfriend did snap this picture t1 right after the start.

Tom's video gets most of it but I've been too busy with work stuff to get it to him. Tonight I hope. I guess it falls under stuff happens when a slight side-to-side contact turns ugly because tires catch the wrong way, but it seems doubly pointless when it happens on a straightaway. This is the second event in a row where we've gone home with a wrecked car through little or no fault of our own. It was a really bad end to a very tough weekend.

I should have part of that in my video but the front camera was inverted and poor quality and i haven't messed with it. I thought it might get messy so while on the back straight I radioed Tom asking if he got through it OK, which happened to be just as we was spinning around in the grass from the big one.

Chaos and frustration aside, it was nice to meet Frank (thanks for bailing me out with the spare engine mount!), Justin, Jordan and others, and to see Ralph and Tom Sager again. Hopefully we can get to the point where we aren't in a constant thrash with no time to circulate the paddock a bit more. After a mostly wet Friday we were still slower than we had been on our only other visit to MO, a NASA race in early 2009 on Toyos and with cars that I would not have expected to be as good. So we were still hopeful of improvement but didn't expect to qualify well. Then Saturday morning was sunny and 8:00 qualifying put the sun directly in the eyes entering a couple of crucial corners. Stupidly, we didn't have sun glasses in the car and had no banner at the top of the windshield. We went back to the trailer for shades but they weren't much help and we went more than 2 seconds slower than the night before.

Have I mentioned how much I hate the typical schedules these days? Traditionally there has been a practice session, a qualifying session and a race for regional events. Now you have to go straight into qualifying mode. How can that be anything but bad for someone getting started or traveling out of division to experience new tracks? Then as if that weren't bad enough the single qualifying impacts your entire weekend because the Sunday "qualifying race" is based on the Saturday race. We totally blew the sunrise qualifying session landing P30 and P37. That screwed us for the Saturday race, which is fine, but using those results to set the next grid encourages doubly aggressive driving and risk taking. At a new track I'm better running alone and not as comfortable making difficult passes so moving up was difficult, and then I had fuel starvation issues the last couple laps giving up much of what I had gained. Meanwhile Tom lost a water pump belt on the penultimate lap so he had to start Sunday near the very back. I don't understand the point of such dependence across separate races. Is that even allowed when they have separate sanctioning numbers? Seems like someone trying too hard to compete with NASA again. Mind you, we weren't going to be competitive regardless and what worries me is that I can't figure out how we could be slower than we were in 2009 on Toyos, but hinging everything off the first session Saturday compounded our problems and made it more difficult to move up during the weekend.

The high maintenance of the 1.6 is being wildly oversold.  It is cheaper and easier to keep a 1.6 running right than anything Germany has made since the early 1990s!

So was the 99 car part of the T1 incident, then taken out on the back straight? That would be one rough 1/4 lap!!

I would like to say a huge Congratulations to Evan Pecore!  He and his dad Rick picked that car up on Friday Morning before heading to the track, I had never really seen him drive but in a couple videos I found on Youtube.  He got off to a rocky start filling the tank with 12 gallons of gas to start practice    but once we got that corrected, I was able to give him really good lead follow for two sessions before I had a car problem keeping me out of the last test session.  He and I pulled up Vids so he knew what to work on for the  last session and he set out to do it.  We overlaid data after each session, and well as watched vid and discussed strategy, He was an absolute sponge, and I cant be prouder of how he raced and a NEW TRACK RECORD!!!!  Wont be long before he teaching me rather then me teaching him!   

 

Had a great time at the camp fire a couple nights with the  fellas always lots of ball busting!

I have seen Vid of the t1 incedent that I supposedly caused LOL...  Maybe Marc Cefalo will post it up somewhere, Im sure somehow it will still be my fault that the race was started at a slow pace as well as the two guys who jumped the start from way back to stack it up in T1.

 

I had some really great door to door racing with Cefalo on Saturday morning, boy has he come along way at Mid Ohio, tough to pass that dude!

Stewart had the In car that we all looked at in the Padlock. I don't think he has posted it yet. 

I know they got bottled up on the outside of T1 because I passed about six or seven cars. I also had to jump the rumble strip in T1 to avoid contact.
